Yes Yes Yes.....those poor people are under a enourmous strain to have children as there is no contraception.....They also have strange religious beliefs that prevent them for having contraception as well...I think we should send boatloads of condoms and the Pill over or forms of the contranceptive pill over to these countries and have medical staff on hand to explain how and why it is needed....those poor children suffer because of malnutrition and lack of food.....if only there was a way to curtail the birth rate that would really help......we need to do something now though as the birth rate is getting higher and higher....What do you think ??

Here is the problem. Go to the pregnancy section of this website or look at any random page and you will see countless people who have NO idea what sex is about, not to mention responsible sex. The Christian agenda dictates that all things sexual are bad - even education. So, if people don't want to teach their own children, don't want them taught in schools, how can they understand the idea of educating another country's population about the basic facts of how babies are made? Besides that, there is a huge misconception that all pregnancies are a gift from God. (Kind of ironic considering how they have to teach them about Christianity in the first place). So, it's better to have countless children that can't be fed, provided medication or education, but it's WRONG to abort or prevent pregnancy. That's the idea here and for everyone else to whom they believe they have a right to dictate.

You would need to educate them on contraception first, that would be the most expensive part of the donation. You can't just hand over a pill or a condom and expect them to know why and how to use it.
Apparently a few years ago, a song was taught to some women in an African village to teach them the risks of unprotected sex leading to AIDS. Unfortunately, they tought that just by singing this during sex would protect them... Get the point? Different culture, different thinking...

In theory, it makes sense, but the reality is that unless you have someone there to provide culturally-appropriate sex education on how babies are made and birth control in general, instruct them on the use of the contraception, and monitor them for side effects (in the case of birth control pills), it would be pretty pointless. The stuff wouldn't get used right (or at all).
There's a big cultural issue to deal with too. Often having lost of kids is a status symbol in many 3rd world countries. You'd have to deal with that as well.

First of all, there is some thing you don't know about Africa. Africa is a massive continent and very firtile land, perhaps the most gifted continent in the world.
It's people use only 10% of the land. Which means there is a huge empty land in africa which needs to be filled by it's owners.this means Africa needs to have more children, in order to have full control of the land and to make the land more productive and prosperous. But if you are talking about how to stop African women from getting pregnant because they are poor and the children cant have bright future when they are born, i think you are very wrong, because we are the most intelegent animals on our planet and the solution is in our hand and we have to find that solution.the solution is very is; you cant stop human being from having sex and have children. we must help africans to get more educated and eventually they would help their ownself,
finally, your helping idea was very good, but it would be only temporary
solution: if we have to come with any solution at all, it must be once and for all.LETS GIVE AFRICA PROPER EDUCATION,AND IN THE MEAN TIME OF COURSE THEY NEED MEDICATION FOR THE MOST KILLER DESEASES.

YES YES YES and it is being done in some parts to reduce the amount of misery until things change for them. However, with all of the aid going out there, things aren't changing fast enough... Greedy governments with a lack of interest in saving its own people by investing money in the land to grow crops and to educate its people is the biggest problem. So in the meantime, birth control is essential

We are doing this. Many programs exist to supply developing countries with contraception and education the people about its use. This is both for population control and controlling the spread of HIV. Unfortunately, many of these people are resistant to the idea because it is foreign to them but we have still helped many people limit the size of their family and prevent the spread of HIV.

Might need to have a few words in the pope's ear about that one - given that the catholic church's ban on contraception is largely responsible for the AIDS epidemic in Africa!

i think this too, but surely if they shouldnt be risking having sex anyway if they cant provide for the children anyway?
everyone uses images of starving children to encourage donations and yes it works, but at the same time i think why do they keep having sex?

It should be offered, but countries have their beliefs and many feel contraception contravenes their religious dogma and so may not be used.
