I have been suffering from severe eczema for 5 years. I have tried many types of treatments. Trying different types of diets, experimenting with different foods, removing mercury fillings from my teeth, exercising, meditation, yoga, detoxing, fasting etc. I sought help from allergists, dermatologists, alternative medicine... and so on. My condition has many names depending on the Dr... hives, psoriasis, eczema, atopic dermatitis, neuro dermatitis. They will say it is genetic, an allergy or a nerve disorder. I have experimented with these treatments to the fullest. I applied the creams and ointments every day and night till my skin "healed". Weeks later, it would re-apear! And it was even worse. For two years i was getting steroid shots. That seemed to be the only thing that would alleviate the condition. After three months my skin would explode in hives (eczema). The Dr. would give me another injection of steroids... 3 months later breakout... and more... i became more immune... 2 months later breakout... sent me to an internal medicine physician... experimented with anti-depressants for my nerves... condition got worse. Now it's all over my body. I am currently seeing an Ayurvedic practictioner. He took a PH reading and found that I had a high acidic rate in my body (the highest he's ever seen 5.3). My liver is having problems breaking down toxins.. toxins filling up in my small intestines and spilling into my blood stream, muscles and pushing its' way out through my skin. I've been put on a strict diet and lifestyle (for the moment).. avoiding foods with high acidity. I would be happy to let your friend know the results. Remember.. Everyone is different.... the ezcema can be caused by something else. Musician, Garry Cobain of Future Sounds of London had severe ezcema too. He went to India and had several treatments... he was suffering from Mercury poisoning from the fillings in his teeth.

Do see a doctor. There are many skin disorders including fungus. The oatmeal paste was recommended by dermatologist but they also included honey in the paste. A friend used the concoction and the eczema cleared up quickly.

Below is a list of possible home relief techniques:

Take warm (not hot) baths with oatmeal soaking products, or make an oatmeal paste with oatmeal and water.
Add a half cup of cider vinegar and a third cup of cold compressed sunflower or safflower oil to bath water; soak
Pat skin gently with a with a wet cool soft compress then gently pat dry to cool the inflammation
Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize affected area with a hypo-allergic lotion several times daily
Apply petroleum jelly (creamy type or lotion is good) on skin immediately after bathing, Wet skin soaks it up better. Keeping skin moisturized is a key factor in healing eczema!
Wet-wrap therapy – soak in bath with mild bath oil then apply moisturizer, such as creamy petroleum jelly. Afterward, soak bandages in warm water then wrap around affected area. Wrap the wet bandages with dry bandages to lock in moisture.
Break open a leaf then dab the juice from an Aloe Vera plant on the affected area several times daily
Add moisture to skin by drinking plenty of water
Use humidifier in dry air or cold weather
Wear cool, loose, cotton clothing
Stay out of the sun

Wash with Dove soaps, use Dove lotions, use dye and perfume free laundry soaps.

My daughter has it and those are the only things that work. The creams that the docs give out have cancer causing agents, and my doc won't even prescribe them anymore.

Easier said than done, but the best way to stop Eczema is to not scratch.

Use Benadryl to stop the itching. Your friend can also use Hydrocortisone cream to stop itching.

most eczema and skin conditons similar to this cannot be 'got rid of' and even if they are, can return at different times. i have psoriasis which is similar and it gets worse when im stressed. diet is important, he should eat less dairy foods, e.g cheese, chocolate and milk, and more oily fish, nuts, fresh fruit and vegetables. uv light treatment can also help, but he must be careful not to burn in the sun, although gentle sunlight also helps. you can get creams from the doctor to make it less severe or itchy if it is itchy. buying special shampoo can also help, because regular shampoo has chemicals in it called sodium laureth sulphate and sodium lauryl sulphate, both of which are industrial de-greasants which strip natural chemicals from the skin. also, he should not use soap. depending on your doctor, they may try to prescribe steroids, which can clear skin conditions up but when they come back they can be worse, so it is best to refuse this kind of treatment.
hope this helps!!!
