aboosait is correct in terms of the smallest fish, however with the largest fish, not so much.

The Giant Mekong Catfish caught last year is the largest known freshwater fish alive today, but in the not so distant past there were other species of freshwater fish that were much larger.

The beluga sturgeon (Huso huso) of Russia at one time may have outweighed even the Mekong catfish. Archaeological excavations of fish caught in the 14th century show that as many as one fifth of the beluga sturgeon caught back then were between 4 and 6 meters in length (12 to 18 feet). The largest catch recorded was an individual 6 meters long and 3200 kg (7000 lbs). Other evidence indicates that historically, this species could actually reach 10 meters (30 feet) in length! Sadly, overfishing and other factors have reduced the numbers and average size of this slow-growing fish, and most of them now only reach 2 meters or less in size.

The South American giant arapaima (Arapaima gigas) also used to be much larger than the giant Mekong catfish. Specimens only a hundred years ago were up to 15 feet long, and several hundred kilos in weight, but they have all been fished out. Now it is extremely rare to catch any arapaima over 8 feet in length.

As far as the largest marine fish, that would be the whale shark (Rhincodon typus). It can be up to 46 feet long, and up to 15 tons in weight. Although the blue whale is certainly larger (and is the largest organism ever known) it is definitely not a fish.

The largest freshwater fish is one of the sturgeon fish, probably the lake sturgeon. It grows to over 12 feet long. Since a whale is not a fish, it can't be included on this list. The largest saltwater fish is the whale shark. Shrimp aren't fish either.

The largest fish isn't a fish at all but a mammal which is a whale. The smallest fish I think is a shrimp. But I don't know if thats a fish or not.
