My daughter's car radio recently stopped working, the CD player works fine but she gets no reception of any kind from the AM/FM radio. I have not listened to it but as she describes it, she gets no static or sound of any kind. When she puts in a CD, it plays fine. Any clues as to the problem ?

It is not the antenna. If the antenna is out, on AM, you would still get noise and static. It sounds like the radio section of the unit will not turn on - either the power relay is bad or the unit itself is broken. This happens - the two are actually different (like your home hifi) and share the preamp and poweramp.

Sadly, with the FM section gone, she now can't use an iPod (they sell iPod units to interface with your car radio).

Sounds like the unit is dead and a replacement is needed ... although, the only thing good on radio anymore is sports/political talk radio. If your daughter doesn't listen to that, then her CDs are commercial free!

The antenna may have come unhooked from the radio. You have to pull the radio out of the dash to check the antenna connection.

It sound like the Antenna cable ought to are transforming into loose and disconnected from the lower back of the radio. attempt eliminating the radio and examine the lower back of the unit. If the Antenna cable is suitable then i'd suspect the radio is undesirable. She ought to have a short circuit. examine the fuse. reliable success!
