If your concerned about a system crash, then you should back up your data. Your OS, applications, and such will already be on your recovery discs. Depending on how much you have in the way of data and what types will determine what device you'll require. If it's simply a few Gigs of Word docs then I'd say 2 or 4 Gig flash drive. That plus a few slide decks, images from friends, Zip Disk. Anything more than that such as ripping music, and digital photos and you should definitely consider a USB or Firewire external hard drive. That way you can set it to periodically back up your machine when connected and now you have piece of mind.

You Should Buy A External Hard drive From Argos Or Other Leading Stores About 80 Gigabytes Should Take All Your Prgrams or you can go into the control Pannel and go ont restore option and create a restore point but that can be unreliable so you could also buy a pen drive to store copys of your files on for more information email me on harleycheetham@yahoo.co.uk

There is a product called a cool plate (or something similar). it is a thin device that sits under your laptop and has a couple of fans in it. Works well. Can buy an most any computer store or a place like Best Buy or Wal Mart. Good luck

They make a heat dissipation pad to put under the laptop. It has a very absorbant gell that will take the heat of the laptop and dissipate it so that the laptop wont over heat. also i would suggest using it for less time and turning it off for long periods of time

If you're using your notebook in bed, don't set it on top of your comforter, sheets, or pillow. Since they are soft objects, your laptop will sink into them and airflow will be restricted, resulting in it overheating.
If that's not what's going on, you may have a dead fan in the system. You might want to have someone take a look at it.

My computer frequently overheats (it gets SUPER hot and the internal fan goes crazy) but I have never lost anything (knock on wood!). If you're worried, though, get an external hard drive or just a large jump drive and save the important stuff.

Yup usage of fan is easy way to loose some heat. For backin up just burn everythin to cd\dvd or make exact copy of your whole system with SW like Symantec ghost.

You can use either a flash drive, external USB hard drive, or if you have a CD-R writer you can copy it to CD's
