If it has been there for months i would recommend him going to the doctors as it could be something i else i think mouth ulcers last for usually about 10 days mine usually do, but it it is a mouth ulcer i would recommend putting on pure salt it will really hurt and make your eyes water but should clear within a couple of days i did it the other week back and my ulcer was massive. I wouldnt use bonjela though as i find this just stings nearly as much as the salt and doesnt work. i use anbesol mouth ulcer gel it numbs the ulcer for temporary pain relieve, also i got sum difflam mouth wash which numbs it too. Hope this helps i know how much they hurt.

well ive had one before and i tried putting toothpaste on it. at first it was painful for a few seconds but cools the ulcer down and feels better in a few minutes and went smaller i the next day and felt less painful and heals qiukly

Zinc lozengers, from a health food shop. Using a tea tree mouthwash can also help.

Are you sure its an ulcer and not an absess? How is his breath smelling? Normal or a bit off?

As hes had it for so long, it sounds like theres an underlying problem. Pack him off to his GPs for a checkup. :O)

Gargle salt water or a dilution of TCP in water. It'll sting like mad, but it works.
