No, I see them fighting to protect the civil liberties that some seek to take away from us. Don't be too quick to judge. One day when your civil rights are violated, you might be glad the ACLU is there.

i find it funny that all the people who say that the aclu is no more than some communist atheist group who only protect child molesters. All the ACLU does is protect everyones rights. The ACLU were the ones who caused desegregation in Brown V. Board of Education. Back then people didnt want this to happen. What disgusts me more is when people say that the ACLU attacks everything religious. These people do not have their facts straight. There have been many occasions where they have protected religion. One example is them suing to allow a 2nd grader to sing a song about god at a talent show. Finally although I despise all those NAMBLA groups, they have the same rights as we do to say what they want, however disgusting and appaling it may be.

What I love about politics is that we can disagree with such passion! The ACLU protects the rights of everyone, even those we disagree with! We need the ACLU to temper these times of religious politics and holy wars. We need the ACLU to give contrast to political bigots who believe they know best for everyone. Is the ACLU destroying everything good in America? EVERYTHING? I think our current administration is destroying liberty and freedoms much more than the ACLU ever could or would. At least the ACLU goes through our courts and not around them!

Yes, I can see it.
As a matter of fact their latest crusade is to have all of the crosses removed from Federal Graves.
If the ACLU wins, it will mean that every cross in every federal or state cemetery will eventually be removed.
This is what the ACLU will do, defecate the graves of the many brave fallen soldiers? Have they no shame? How can we sit idly by and let the ACLU push the beliefs of a mindless few onto the rest of America?
P.S.
The ACLU is only trying to protect the portions of the constitution that they see fit. They are ignoring many things.

No, they are protecting the rights of all Americans. Just because you disagree with a case that they have taken up. For instance prayer in school does not make you right and them wrong. Ultimitly the judges decides not the ACLU or you. In case you have never been to court, you state your case the other side states theirs and then the judge decides who is right according to our laws and the constitution. Thank god, there is an ACLU to take up causes that protect us from people that would ignor the constitution.

They helped protect the rights of Rush Limbaugh and Oliver North. Yes, they are scum, but they still have rights.
Oh, and it's a lie that the ACLU is looking to remove crosses form tombstones in federal cemetaries.

Let's see what the ACLU is up to. In June, they filed a suit so that people trying to enter Martin’s Cove National Historic Site in Wyoming don't have to go through a Mormon visitor center. They defended the rights of a prisoner who is a member of the Church of God and Saints of Christ to get a meal in accordance with his religious needs and they defended the right of a second grader to sing a religious song in a school talent show. Was the second grader the scum you were referring to or the Christian prisioner?

I beg to differ. The ACLU is determined to protect the constitution, and that means protecting all of us. They support a woman's right to birth control, and also support the free speech rights of neo-Nazis and other groups that would love to kill the ACLU. I don't like every stance they take, but they stand for the rule of law. They also stand for proper legal procedures, which is a very important thing if you ever get arrested. I'd say we are fortunate to have them.

Yes, the ACLU and Liberal judges are steadfast in their constant quest to the destruction of America and her values.
Granted, their purpose in the beginning may have been good. But money and realizing the power of activist judges, have replaced their true course. Now it is a PROFITABLE organization.
They defend the "rights" of a few to destroy the "rights" of the majority. If such "rights" were brought to a vote, by the people, their organization would fold.

Here's the ACLU release regarding NAMBLA (and other orgainizations.) You'd be surprised who they have represented, actually, but I'll let their news release speak for itself.
ACLU Statement on Defending Free Speech of Unpopular Organizations (8/31/2000)
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
NEW YORK--In the United States Supreme Court over the past few years, the American Civil Liberties Union has taken the side of a fundamentalist Christian church, a Santerian church, and the International Society for Krishna Consciousness. In celebrated cases, the ACLU has stood up for everyone from Oliver North to the National Socialist Party. In spite of all that, the ACLU has never advocated Christianity, ritual animal sacrifice, trading arms for hostages or genocide. In representing NAMBLA today, our Massachusetts affiliate does not advocate sexual relationships between adults and children.
What the ACLU does advocate is robust freedom of speech for everyone. The lawsuit involved here, were it to succeed, would strike at the heart of freedom of speech. The case is based on a shocking murder. But the lawsuit says the crime is the responsibility not of those who committed the murder, but of someone who posted vile material on the Internet. The principle is as simple as it is central to true freedom of speech: those who do wrong are responsible for what they do; those who speak about it are not.
It is easy to defend freedom of speech when the message is something many people find at least reasonable. But the defense of freedom of speech is most critical when the message is one most people find repulsive. That was true when the Nazis marched in Skokie. It remains true today.
-30-
Keep in mind that if anyone were to try to stifle your freedom to offer your opinions, here or in any other forum, regardless of what your views were, the ACLU would be there to defend YOUR right to speak freely!
I may not agree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it!
