The wall will provide temporary employment for some of the trespassers who are already here. It will also intimidate many wannabe trespassers, who will likely be willing to pay smugglers a higher fare to sneak them across the border. Maybe it will become a tourist attraction, and entrepreneurs will be able to set up souvenir shops. All kinds of possibilities exist!

I don't think it will achieve anything considering so many US states near the border were Mexicans to start off? You know what i mean!
Building walls is pretty negative. look at the berlin wall for instance! It didn't achieve much as spies kept going through it and so did many civilians as well. It didn't solve any problem.
Then 20 years ago, they were talking about building a wall across ireland to separate north and south. They didn't and thank goodness for that because it would have meant a lot builders assassinated in teh process, never mind still no solution!
I think this whole thing about the wall is just a gimmick to detract attention from the US main problems, gas prices rising non stop and the population becoming empoverished because of the war and too many other difficulties.

Hopefully it will accomplish what it's suppose to and help to prevent illegal immigrants from coming into our country, taking our jobs, and then sending the money back to which ever country they come from. We have enough economic hardships in this country and enough jobless people that it is time to start concentrating on our citizens. Not only are illegal immigrants taking jobs over here but our companies are moving over there and providing jobs there also. I mean seriously what is up with tax breaks for immigrants. I understand everyone deserves a chance at a better life and if they become legal, English speaking, tax paying citizens that contribute to our economy then more power to them. But it is time to stop letting illegal immigrants take our jobs while our own children starve.

In early American history immigrants to this country were for the most part skilled.
Machinist,shoe makers,engravers,tailors,welders,etc.
The immigrants from Mexico are virtually all "unskilled" and very
poor. They have become a severe drain on the welfare and
assistance programs,as well as taking advantage of hospitals
and other medical outlets.Several hospitals have closed their
doors because of losses in revenue into the millions of dollars.
The best for all concerned is to return to the application
process that we used for so many years.Sneaking across the
border into the US in the middle of the night is not lawful and not
at all fair to those who choose to fill out the paperwork and come
to the US legally.

Ugggh! This question has been asked so many times in so many different ways. Yes, the US is made up of immigrants and I don't think most americans have a problem with immigrants. It's ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS that americans do not want here. They use up resources that they are not entitled to (Social services, public education, etc.) and they drive our wages down by working for wages below minimum wage. The wall will help to keep out ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS!!

There's a wall between the U.S. and Mexico?
The U.S. is not going to enforce a zero-immigration policy at that border--it's not politically correct to do so.
As you can see, the initial furor over the issue of illegal immigrants has died down, and the issue is almost a non-issue. Too many businesses want the cheap labor...

There's gonna be a second Mexican/American war way before that happens because those idiots just love testing their luck. and the wall will be effective as it's proven in other countries but people just rather have illegals come in as they please. Alot of people gotta stop saying that the wall will be useless because you'll never know unless it's built. Why not live in the one the borders towns/cities in Texas or California and see how your attitude changes.

Yes but the wall is so that the ILLEGAL immigrants stay out. It isn't fair to other US citizens to pay taxes while these guys don't. They can still cross over legally with papers that say they are willing to pay the taxes.

It'll make the US feel like they got control of the immigrant problem, when it actually won't make a difference. People will find a way around it. It'll just be a big waste of money.
joey-before you use an offensive term like that, learn how to spell

Let's see....there is a such thing as legal immigration, even though not many immigrants chose that path anymore. They used to way back when, but not anymore.
A wall will keep ILLEGALS in their own countries and will keep Texas hospitals from going bankrupt. It will keep all the Texas landowners along the border from losing their properties. It will also keep them from having millions of dollars of damage done to their properties....
I could go on, but I won't.
If you want to come to America to make a better life for yourself, please go through the legal channels and have a job waiting for you when you get here. Please keep your wife or girlfriend from immediately going on welfare and state healthcare. And PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE live only one immediate family to a home.
Thanks!
