Why he didn't, I suppose...
1. Ronaldinho is a GREAT player exactly as other Brazilians.
2. He was in lack of fitness exactly as other B.
3. He was in lack of willingness exactly as o.B.
4. He played in a heavyly unbalanced team e.a.o.B.
5. He was tactically untrained e.a.o.B.
Finally: Brazil wasn't a real team, but a bunch of champions well-fitted for commercials. A 4-2-2-2 tactic with only Emerson and Ze Roberto covering an unimpressive defensive line was such a suicidal tactic to let me guess it was crowd-n-press forced, not a coach choose. Coach to blame everyway. He wasn't confident in this tactics and passed his fear to the team. So, something works when Brazil was attacking weaker opponents as JAP, CRO, AUS were. Something was working when Ghana, over estimating its opponent, choose a suicidal offside tactic (fast break attacks was the only thing Brazil could perform, and they had an easy way - however scoring 2 gols on offside foul).
When they faced the first real test match, France wins.

The defense was great for the kind of offensive team it is, gaps between the midfield and defense is common when the team is going forward.

Now the tactical flaw, which made Ronaldinho play alot less imho, is that the coach chose two strikers with the same play style. Ronaldo and Adriano are good strikers, when they get the ball. None of them is the kind that run all round to get the ball, they wait near their position and wait for the ball to come. So basically the team had two "dead" players up front. Because of that, Ronaldinho and Kaka had to mark alot more, since Ronaldo and Adriano never do that, and that makes them run and get tired quicker. Since they are the ones supposed to start the goals, they should have more options when passing, and not two easily markable strikers.

If Ronaldinho and Robinho were up front, the team would be ALOT quicker, with Kaka and Juninho (or Ricardinho) in the midfield. The way the team was set, it depended too much on Ronaldinho and Kaka. To start the goal, they had to drible some guys, draw the attention of the ones marking R&A, so they could pass for a finish. No need to say this is easy to block, you only need one defender going all-or-nothing and another one expecting the drible, if the first gets dribled the second kills the play, if the first gets it a quick counterattack is set.

Now about the defense, I liked it, if the attack put enough pressure the other team would have very little opportunities, and would be open for counterattacks. But the whole tactic was flawed, the defenders had great individual skill at stopping the attcks, but weren't supported by the attack/midfield, who should be making the pressure on the midfield while the defenders are on the back. With the two strikers having the same style of waiting the ball, it always go to an opposing player when they can get it kicked forward.

So, with all that said, Ronaldinho was in the wrong team (most of the real team was on the bench), in the wrong position and trying to make the wrong strategy work. Add the fact that every single team mark him individualy, and bingo, you got a reason why such a great player couldn't shine.

Ronaldinho is skilled , but I think he has forgot that soccer is to make goals or good passes for that, soccer is not only to have fun playing with the ball, and making people admire your ability. I was a BArcelona F.C. fan for years, but when Ronaldinho was in his seond year many of the players Eto, Deca and others started doing indiviual plays just to be like Ronaldino, bad example, teh Coach has a hard work makeing them play as a team. Ronaldinho is too showoff, he has to use his ability to make his team wim, given passes to his partners, making a team work.
i f you say Woe wonderful he plays, and the team lost, whats is the point...... Soccer is not only the showis a team game

He didn't win anything His team did. He played very poorly as he did in the cup. He is just an average player, trying fancy moves. People who don't know anything about football, fall for those fancy moves. Romario was the last great Brazilian player.
