need to know how old the baby is first? If it is a newborn which i suspect it is, support his head and neck as they have no control of it whatsoever. A cradle hold. will support his head and neck, The head goes in the crook of your arm and the legs go to your other arms...or wrap it up like a burrito...that is called swaddling. Works awesome and everybody will think you are awesome with babies. You will certainly win points and maybe more. lol

you put one hand under there butt to hold them up....and the other one behind there back so they don't lose there balance.or ......Cradling a baby is quite natural and simple. Place the baby's head in the crook of one of your arms and wrap your other arm around the baby or hold the original arm with the second arm. This is a great position for talking to baby or looking at them. Many babies sleep very well in this position. It's also a good beginners position, particularly for younger kids or siblings.

Here's an answer to make you feel better.... no matter what babies will move a squirm while you hold them you hold them how it is comfortable to YOU (and him) if he's not crying he's OK. All babies squirm no matter what.

there is the cradle hold, the football hold, the colic hold, there are many ways to hold a baby and really no wrong way if the baby is comfortable, if you and the baby are comfortable, then that way is right. holding a baby just takes practice.

If the baby is less than 4 months of age it is very very important that you support his neck and head since till now they cannot hold their heads. If he is older than you can hold him anyway you like.
