They claim to be so concerned about world poverty and yet no celebrity is willing to let go of a single cent.
But they can give money to supposedly charitable reasons when it is very much publicised. They get the time to ask useless questions trying to upset us mere mortals when they can afford to do something to stop poverty with their own money.
They're willing to give shows supposedly pressuring world leaders into cancelling debts of 3rd world countries when THEY stand to get more publicity for themselves. Hence, driving more money for themselves. And themselves only. What does this leave for the poor and needy? Nothing.
When will this selfishness of them end?

I earn less than US$160 per month and I'm studying, but even then, I contribute money to the poor as alms every year. And I give out to poor on many other occasions as well.
If I can do this why can't celebrities give up buying the US$45,000 (more than cost of a good degree) worth shoe just for once (coz they already own more than 500, I own 2 only) and give it to poor?

Some may give from their heart, but I think the majority give to charities for tax write-offs & the publicity that you spoke of.
However, I cannot understand why more people in general do not give to charity. It does not have to be money, it can be time. I know so many bored housewives that do not have to work but do so just to have something to do. But they complain about the job all the time bringing down morale & make it more difficult for people that do have to work for a living . It seems to me if they are so unhappy about it they should do volunteer work instead. Maybe it would provide them meaning in their unhappy lives as well as help those less fortunate. Maybe it would make them realize how lucky they really are.
Not only that but it would provide more jobs to people that actually did need them, raise the demand for workers, & in turn provide better saleries for those that need to work.

I think you would be greatly surprised by how much money wealthy celebrities do give to the poor and charities. You only hear about a tiny fraction who want a big deal made out of it. You don't hear about all the others who do so silently. I commend them for their charitable donations and I would never be so presumptuous to think the world's poor or the country's poor are their responsibillity to bail out.

Bono of U2 and Angelina Jolie are both doing incredible things by donating time and money to help the poor and trying to make the world a better place.
Most are selfish but not all.

I agree with your statement. I also think it has something to do with greed. The more they make the more they want. They treat their money as competition on which celebrity made the most during the course of one year, so that they may be listed in Peoples magazine as the wealthiest. It's truly sickening. They just try to make themselves look good!

They earn their money just like we do, although their salaries are insane. They can do what they like with their money. Just because they have the money doesn't mean it's the world's to tell them what to do with it. I agree with some of the things you said about them wanting publicity...some anyway. I heard Angelina Jolie gives away a third of her income to charity. I do, however, think of the good things they could do with some of it instead of buying and spending money like it's water like on cars and clothes and jewelry. They're not obligated to give any of it away. It's their money.

They worked hard to perfect their craft and now they are reeping the benefits of it. Did the poor help them act? did the poor help them get their first, most recent, or any part in any movie? i don't see it as selfish to give what i worked so hard to get. if you got a problem with them, then why don't you become an actor and give out money to the poor until you're equipped to join them.

All don't give money to the poor because they feel why should they part with their hard earned money for somebody else's laziness. I am a firm believer that we are the creaters of our own destiny i.e. being rich or being poor. One is poor because he/she has not worked hard to overcome that. I have NO sympathy for the POOR. Apologies for being too harsh.

well most celeberties do, but the ones who don't give to chartiy funds and help the poor are very greeding and the word Greed is breaking the seven deadly sins. i hope they read this. well. pay is hell when they don't help and only thinks for themself. for example look what happened to Lay the founder of enrron, he was greeding and he got what he deserve and now is dead because of the guilt he did this his employees.
