No, Smurfette was not a smurf hooker. She was created by one of Gargamel's magic spells in an attempt to sow discord among the Smurfs, all the better to facilitate his evil plan to capture them all and turn them into gold. Until she appeared on the scene, there were no female smurfs, and reproduction seemed to occur in some unknown asexual fashion. Might have been that Papa Smurf conjured up new Smurflings in that crazy old magic cauldron of his. For the record, Smurf society seems to have functioned without any currency whatsoever, Smurf Berries or no smurf berries. The whole story was really a piece of socialist/communist propaganda developed by Peyo (a Belgian socialist) who wanted to demonize the capitalist system by depicting a happy, prosperous society where everyone pitches in and is happy working and contributing to the commuity in their own way. Ever wonder why Papa Smurf's outfit is Red? because he's a friggin' commie, that's why!
The "perfect socialist" society is threatened by a greedy, secretive man (Gargamel) who wants to destroy everything the Smurfs have built to satisfy his lust for gold. He also tries to use social inequality (introducing the concept of gender into a society that was essentially homogenous and egalitarian). Gargamel appears to have been at least margianlly successful in this regard, since Smurfette appears to be the only Smurf who doesn't really contribute anything to the society in the form of work. Smurfs seem to appreciate her for her own sake, and are able to adapt their society around her.
If a smurf ever did choke, it wouldn't last, between all the other smurfs who'd be ready to Smurf that piece of food right out of their throat, or Papa Smurf's expedient magic.

Yea she's a very naughty girl the one you don't take home to mother. She will never let your spirits down once you get her off the street. All smurfs especially papa bang her!

I don't know if she was or not, but I want to know where baby smurf came from because Smurfette was the only girl and she was never pregnant......hmmmm.....
