They are not shifting... we are. The outer crust is floating and has a wobble in it. It is making a circular movement around the pole... not that big and very slow. Once every 25000 years if I recall correctly.
The other major event is the swapping of poles. North becomes south and visa versa. This is believed to have happened a few times and may have caused some of the ice ages or happend because of them. This is believed to be an almost instantaneous effect with devastating effects.
Last time that happened men was not around yet.

They could shift anywhere, even as far as getting close to one another. It has a lot to do with the inner core of our planet. I can only answer in layman's terms but if the plates shift because of magma displacement and the magma consists of the very elements that are a key to magnetism, then that explains in some detail why the poles migrate. If the Earth were to cool off like Mars did, it would lose the magnetosphere entirely.

I'm goona add on to the first person. Yes he hit the nail on the head. But I want to add this. The sun's poles change like this at the same times. Or different, however conditions are on the sun detemines the rapidity of change. but if earth changes first, think of the repercussions. Or if the sun changes before any other planet. That would cause a major catastrophy.

No that's not how magnetic poles work, the shift because earths molting iron core is flipping upside down

I have read that a change has started and that one of the identifiers has been the animals that migrate. Whales, porpoises, geese, ducks ect. have not been traveling to their normal destinations due to their gps being cunfused with the shifting or changing of the poles. It may even be possible for the warming of the planet just like during the little ice age.

Earth's poles cannot change unless the axis of its spin changes, and the poles cannot change places unless our planet changes direction of spin. If that were to happen, then the poles would immediately become reversed.
