My last labor ended in a c-section which was a source of great depression for me (right or wrong). The recovery was awful also. I'm hoping to have a vaginal birth this time and was wondering if anyone has accomplished this and if so, what made the difference?

My first son was born via emergency c-section (after a full labour) They say it was fetal distress but I called it "physician distress" ;)

I had a successful vbac with my second son and had 2 more normal deliveries after that. My vaginal deliveries put me at total ease with my c-section. It's hard to explain. I was feeling exactly like you. Don't feel ashamed for it. A lot of women feel that way. They feel cheated, angered, sad, guilty, etc.

Have you considered hiring a doula? They are wonderful and will provide you with all the information you need.. PLUS be there to encourage you! They are well worth the money!

Good luck, you can DO it!!

My first was a c-section and I had a terrible time dealing with the pain, my belly was infected from the staples and I was not a happy camper. With our second I had gone to a new doctor and she asked if I wanted a VBAC, I had her explain everything to me and my husband and I thought sure let's try it. I was induced at 11 pm and by 4:44 am our son was born. It was so easy. I thought I would have a hard time, but no. My husband was even able to deliver. Instead of staying at the hospital for 3 to 5 days we went home soon after he was born and the recovery, well it was so much easier, of course a little cramping, but I was able to take care of our newborn son. The only thing I regretted was that getting the weight off seemed harder than with the c-section.

We are due in 2 weeks again and we are going to have another vbac. I can't wait.

Good luck with your decision. I think it would be good to see the difference.

A lot of it depends on how long ago you had the c-section. Some doctors won't even consider a VBAC, so if this is something you really want to try to do, you will need to choose a OBGYN that is willing to work with you. Look for one that has a lower c-section rate too. Some dr's perform c-sections when they aren't needed, for many different reasons. Good luck. And a doula would be a wonderful help.

I had a C-Section and talked to my doctor about having a VBAC and there is a lot of research that my doctor gave me that shows how negatively a VBAC can impact the baby and the mother. Just make sure you look up the research about it.
