Totally agree with both you and Allen have written, French are tired and Italians goalkeeper and defenders were highly impressive in every match Italy played.
But you relegate fitness as a key factor only in extra-time, I don't.
Coach Lippi build his early stunning years in Juventus working on fitness and new criteria in training. Having great players, fitness, tactical mastership, he went to play 3 UEFA Championship finals - '96 - '97 - '98, a 3-years neverending match, playing with an impressive 3-4-3. Results were shocking, discarding impressive scores in stage1, I perfectly remember 4-1 (Ajax, semi-final '97 - Monaco, semi-final '98) 6-1 (Milan, in Milano, 'serie A' championship '98)
He led Italy in WC preliminaries with a 4-3-1-2 tactic to enlight great plays by Totti (or Del Piero, when Totti was injured, and, besides this replacement, Italy strike 3-1 Holland and 4-1 Germany in March '06).
Actually, Lippi has switched to a less impressive and more defensive 4-4-1-1 to give better cover to Totti (he'd a broken leg in February and plays at 70% fitness), and assuming it's better to avoid a replacement by Del Piero, who is having bad performing match, as seen against Australia.
By now, I don't guess Lippi could change this tactic, but there is a 33% chance he will put De Rossi - now eligible to play again - in midfield, paired with Gattuso and Perrotta. They are good defensive midfield, and I could switch again to 4-3-1-2, earning movement and attacks from wing defenders Grosso and Zambrotta. Being confident in physical supremacy.
If this happen, I can't give France any chance, and it could be a square win match as never seen before in WC finals. Something as 4-0.

haha. okay, well, Italy has a very strong defense formation, and the Goalkeeper kept clean sheets throughout the matches except that one on own goal., it is a great possiblity that Italy will win, i'm not an Italy fan, for France [i'm not a fan of France aswell] their Midfields are quite strong, it's also a possible for the French could claim the world Title after 8years of their last victory. anyway, it all depends to Raymond Domenech [France]'s & Marcello Lippi [Italy] 's Strategies on their upcoming games, for both lineups & their formation. so, let's enjoy the match =)

Cheers!

SOCCER ALWAYS INCLUDES THE SECRETE.WE WILL FIND OUT THAT MYSTERY ON SUNDAY AFTER THE MATCH. EVERYONE KNOWS THAT SKILLS AND DEFENSE OF THESE TEAMS ARE BOTH GOOD.ITALY HAS SOME GREAT FULLBACKS,UNTIL NOW, ITALY WAS NEVER LOSE BY ANYTEAM OR SCORED BY ANYTEAM EXCEPT THEIR OWN GOAL.FRANCE , THEIR COACH'S EXPERIENCE ALWAYS TAKE THE ATTACK TO DEFENSE. FOR ME , IT WILL BE THE MOST WONDERFUL MATCH BECAUSE IT'S THE FINAL AND BECAUSE IT WILL SHOW EXACTLY HOW GOOD ARE THEY,FRANCE HAD WIN BRAZIL , THE CHAMPION OF WORLD CUP 2002,ITALY, THE TEAM HAD NEVER BE SCORED.WHICH??? ITALY WILL WIN 2-1

Italy have excellent defense so if France want to win against them then they have to practice A LOT!!!! Italy have great players who can achieve a lot so I think Italy have a bigger chance of winning the world cup this year......

Their advantage is that their game lasted 90 games, not like italy's who had to take the extra time as well

yes , but I believe they need to play very physical and score more than 2 goals, otherwise Italy is going to win because Italy have a better offense than they do
