If you getting a signal from your router that means your router is communicating with your pc. You can rule out your network card

Perhaps the cable modem is at fault

Check the ip address on the network card - if it reports an ip address starting with169 that means its a bad ip address

load up the router configuration page (usually http://192.168.1.1)

check to see if the router is getting a global IP address from the modem/cable modem.

If your using a cable modem make sure its docsis 2.0

If you have mac filtering check your settings to see if your router is not rejecting your mac address

If your using wep encryption make sure both keys match, its easier if you use a 64bit key because its less work for your browser and pages will load up faster

Hope this helps out!

Go to start, my network places, and then add new wireless network. Also you can access your router with it's ip address. Then go to wireless settings and check for encription. Make sure a key isn't required. Or right click on the connection icon and click connect.

Is the SSID setting the same on the router and the card? Usually that is the problem.

Make sure you SSID is correct.
Ping your machine....can't ping, network card not configured right.
Ping another machine on the same network.....can't ping, network or subnet address is wrong.
Ping your default gateway...can't ping, gateway address may be wrong..
Ping past the gateway 209.73.186.238.
If you get here but can't ping yahoo.com then your DNS is incorrect.

you might be connected to the WLAN but not to the internet.

Check the following

go to start->run
type cmd and press enter
now type ipconfig /all

in the output check the DNS prefix
