The best routes to take are to research the process of starting a business as well as the industry you're interested in.
I recommend checking out the SBA, Entrepreneur, The Start Up Journal & Nolo. All 4 are great informational resources for the new/small business owner. I posted links for you in the source box.
Associations may be a good avenue to explore as well. These organizations will address many of the thoughts, questions and concerns you'll inevitably have as well as many you haven't anticipated yet. See the source box for some relevant links.
Research, research, research – this cannot be stressed enough. Read as much as you can about the industry. Here are some book titles that are relevant:
* Ultimate Guide to Specialty Retail: How to Start a Cart, Kiosk or Store -- by Patricia Norins
* Start and Run a Coffee Bar by Tom Matzen, Marybeth Harrison
* Coffee Basics: A Quick and Easy Guide by Kevin Knox
* How to Open a Financially Successful Coffee, Espresso & Tea Shop by Elizabeth Godsmark
* ESPRESSO! Starting and Running Your Own Specialty Coffee Business by Joe Monaghan
There are plenty of free informational resources out there. Check the source box for links to articles.
Hope that helps! I wish you much success & happiness in all your ventures!

Why can't you join the two dreams? Open a rather eclectic coffee shop with both traditional and non traditional seating. The non traditional seating could be overstuffed easy chairs made to resemble a very comfy living room. Use your photography to hang all over the walls. Put prices on the photography pieces and see what sells. Running a new business takes hours and hours so you'd better be snapping lots of rolls of film beforehand that you can have turned into larger pieces to hang later. In the right area, I bet it would be successful. Get your shop in a more affluent area or a more artsy area...something like Soho in NY. Good Luck. I happen to think you have two great dreams.

Fear False Evidence Appearing Real, u hv not even started so this is the what the abbreviation F E A R stands for u. Now do what u love and u will prosper, u do ur act which u love and leave the success and goodness of carrer to My Father. How about a coffee shop with a photographer for memorie of family pictures, friends, love birds for a begining and move on slowly training someone to take care of coffee shop. I love U. Just do it, purpose is to serve the people.

Simple- Have a photo gallery/coffee shop. This will be your "selling point" to business lenders that your coffee shop would be unique. Plus, the sales of the photos could help the business during slow seasons.
