How come Big Bird was the only one on Sesame Street who could see Snuffy ?

As I recall, for many years, everyone assumed that Mr. Snuffalupogas (God, I know I just butchered that!) was Big Bird's imaginary friend because he would leave right as someone else came along, setting up a years-long situation in which no one but Big Bird had actually MET Snuffy. But, just like Joanie had to love Chachi eventually, everyone else eventually met Snuffy. There's no more of the no-see-ums going on. (As least, not last I watched!)

At first ( when Snuffy first came on the program), Snuffy was a figment of Big Birds imagination. He wasn't real to any of the other characters - they couldn't see him - only BB!

That situation didn't persist. At first Snuffy was cast as an "imaginary friend", and it was not so much that other people couldn't see him as that he conveniently disappeared when other people came on the scene. Later on, Snuffy did interact with other characters on the show and they certainly "saw" him. He went from being an "imaginary" creature (Snuffaluffagus) to a real creature.
