The 173rd airborne birgade was ambushed by over 1,200 VC (viet Cong) during operation HUMP, Vietnam. 48 Americans lost thier lives that day. Serverly wonded and risking his own life to save others, Lorence Joell, a medic was the first LIVING Black man sience the Spanish American War to recieve the the Unitied States Medal Of Honor for saving so many lives during the battle that day. We haven't lost more lives in one battle sience entering Vietnam.
