I have a 2001 F-150 that has been an outstanding vehicle but it is a gas hog. I am looking at ways to make the vehicle more fuel efficient. Thanks in advance!

The key to increasing mileage is helping the engine work less so it can make more power. Helping it breathe is a huge part of this.

Adding a K&N frees up the engine's ability to inhale air. By maing it work less to get air in, more power can be made. The K&N setups are louder than factory air boxes, though. That's why the factory doesn't build them that way to start with.

If you really want to gain more fuel efficiency, free up the exhaust system and let the engine exhale as well. Adding headers and a free-flowing exhaust system will make more power and add fuel economy because the engine won't be working as hard to make the same level of power. Again - it might be a bit louder, but some of us like the sound.

If you still want more mileage, upgrade the ignition system with an amplifier like those sold by MSD. A strong spark will help burn the fuel more efficiently, again making more power and using less fuel to get to the same place.

The tornado thing is a restriction in the air inlet- which is the opposite of what we're trying to acheive.

Here's another tip- If you make the mods I've suggested, you will feel additional power under your foot. You'll be tempted to exercise these additional horses. It will be fun.

But, if additional fuel economy is your goal, you will have to resist the temptation to flex your trucks newfound muscles.

If you can hold off on flooring the gas pedal, you'll see an increase in mileage.

You'll also be more of a man than I. Personally, I'd have to lay into it and hear the sweet sound of a happy V-8 at wide open throttle...

...but that's just me.

Good Luck with it!

Hello....I like the K&N Filters myself. I use them in all of my vehicles and I dont have to worry about replacing them again. Just take them out, clean them and put them back in. Now, with that said, if you use the whole kit on the truck, be aware that you will get more noise from the cleaner do to the air being sucked in. Another thought on fuel mileage is put a true dual exhaust system as this allows for 4 cylinders to go threw a pipe instead all 8. Another thought is that change your spark plugs every 40,000 miles and use the Motorcraft Double Platinum.
And one of the most simple fuel mileage help is check your tire pressure and make sure thast they are correct in air pressure.

If you use a tornado, you deserve to have that money ripped out of your hands as will be done. That product has been shown time and time again to be a scam, along with all these other scams such as putting magnets on your fuel filter, etc.

Probably, but why? As mentioned before, the tornado is worthless.
