They'd only find something else to distract them from life...

that's the justification I love to have a beer or two. Children see you loving to have a beer or two, or that feeling good comes from a can. Teenagers want to be adult so they copy what adults do but cant handle it. If people teach children that feeling good comes from a can when things get bad in life they will turn to a can and you will have fights and not just on weekends. the majority of all violent crime happens with Americas most deadly DRUG alcohol. Other drugs are just a drop in the bucket compared to booze.
Here is the solution. Legalize all drugs and tax them. take the money spent and put it into education. Teach children that feeling good does not come from a can. There are no quick ways to feel good feeling good comes from helping others, creating art, or throwing a football. This will take care of most of the problem. Take the crime and the charm of being bad away and most kids wont do it.

Booze has been banned in the past but, as you can tell, it never went away.
Again, looking to the past we can see that the problems of "binge-drinking" are far from new, even in the 13th century London was known for "the immoderate drinking of the foolish". In the 1740's/50's there were around 17,000 "gin-houses" in London.
In 1751 Henry Fielding wrote, "A new kind of drunkenness, unknown to our ancestors, is lately sprung up amongst us, and which if not put a stop to, will infallibly destroy a great part of the inferior people."
The Gin Act of 1736 attempted to outlaw the sale of gin, but was circumvented by selling the spirit in the guise of medicine.
Do a search for Hogarth's painting "Gin Lane"
In short, banning booze probably wouldn't help but habits will probably change again as habits have a habit of doing.

Trouble is, something else would take it's place - what has every single culture / civillisation / tribe throughout the world got in common? They've all got their own religion and their own way of getting ripped to the ****! It's human nature.
It's not the booze responsable for the trouble in the streets, it's the ill-educated, idiotic, pathetic drop outs who believe it's 'fun' to have a fight to impress their bird. Cure the ignorance - solve the problem.

It was tried already. Didn't work. No, it would not be healthier or safer. There are health benefits to consuming beer and red wine. Proper education would make it a safer place.

You can't legislate against people being stupid - which is where the trouble starts, not with the booze.
If it wasn't booze, it would be something else.
The US tried to ban it, and all that happened was that a lot of criminals got very rich.

We'd do a lot more of other drugs. For instance, Iran has banned alcohol (being an islamic country) and appears to have an extraordinarily large population of heroin addicts.
Also we'd probably see the drug dealers expanding from the supply of crack/heroin/etc into alcohol a well.

Society would collapse without alcohol! There would be rioting in the streets for sure! So therefore it wouldn't be safer!

It's just not gonna happen so there is no point even thinking about it. The government wouldn't be able to afford it, where would they be able to recover that much revenue?
