its not only the carpet , im sure the pad is bad also, once a smell gets in the pad its real hard to get it out. might need to replace it

If you can get the rug and the pad (If one) outside, sunlight helps a lot. If not, try spraying with diluted apple cider vinegar (half water and half vinegar). I am dealing with wet carpeting, and the vinegar really works, and eventually dissipates so you don't smell it.

sprinkle baking soda on it let it set for a few days the amount depends on how big the area is let it set over night
