Angel M gave the best answer thus far, as she is by experience informed on the issue. Debonaire offered a good point, that outside nations have siphoned off wealth. However, I was dissappointed to see her show her bigotry by claiming Africa is full of corrupt people. Yes, well, so what? Every part of the world has corrupt people. Some Africans are well off, many are not. Will giving them aid do more harm than good? Your opinion like anyone else's, will be based on your education and sentiment.
Personally, I think much aid either just perpetuates dependency, postpones the inevitable, or is stolen or misused. And this is not just an African problem. Look at what happened to the billions of aid spent in the Katrina- Rita hurricane- and flood- affected areas.

Africa is NOT a country -- it is a large cvontinent! Much of the problem with finance is that it is divided into so many different governments, some of which are quite incapable of conducting financial matters with good stewardship. Much of the continent has a long history of exploitation by European colonial powers. There is GREAT need of charitable service to many parts of Africa, because rich in resources or not, many millions of people are in financial ruin -- and thereby in danger of starvation and disease. Financial aid is MUCH more forthcoming thqn Western nations paying fairly for resources!

It goes beyond that. Industrialized nations have been dumping money into Africa for years. In some cases it's financial aid to help the impoverished people, in other cases it's in building infrastructure to support the gathering of natural resources and buying those resources. Part of the problem, indeed a very large part, is that African governments are full of corrupt people. These people skim money off the top of resource sales and financial aid, leaving little, if any, money for the people that need it most.

Are you African? cos if you are that's ok, but if not, don't be so self absorbed.
As far as i know, the economical differences are huge. there's the very rich, and very poor, not too many in between. I think instead of money being invested into a dead end street, they need to education the government/economy on how to use that money more wisely.
What makes you so sure that the Western Country is steeling things??? I hope you have back up to that statement, and not blowing hot steam.

I am a Proudly African ( A Nigerian) Yes Africa as a continent has been seen as Synonymous to POVERTY and anything NEGATIVE. But i actually want us to know that poverty and its likes is a global issue and should be discussed globally without undue sentiments. Yes there is poverty, likewise as it is in other continents of the world. I have been in Nigerian for the past 30yrs since of my birth till NOW. am well employed and live a good life, but sometimes pple who have not been to Africa see it as a DEAD Zone. In as much as I welcome help from the International Community to the African continent, I will be very happy if they will do us good by PREVENTING our leaders who Siphon our WEALTH to the FOREIGN land. Africa is endowed with human and natural resources which suppose to make it the best rich continent in the whole world, Our problem is bad and greed leaders. The aid they give us, still go into the wrong hands of our corrupt leaders, at the end, nothing shows from their help. The Questioner said they steal our money - I think she/he would have said they aid and abeit our leaders in siphoning our WEALTH to the foreign Land. If they actually love us, they should do something about this!!

Africa is really not poor, its loaded with gold and diamonds.People(particularly whites) are stealing it worth like they did America. As for what you see on television is not always true. There are poor and bad places in Africa but that's all they are going to show you. They wont show you the nice buildings and nice places. They only show you the desert and poor places and diseased black people. So you can get that as a mental thought, thinking that's all it is in Africa. When they really are living just like us.(if you don't believe me)ask yourself why do every country have cars and buildings, but Africa still look like the stone age. That's because they really do have cars, buildings, technology, and everything else just like u.s.a.

First of all please realize yourself that the people of Africa DO need financial aid ,it is very essential and humanitarian.
All the people may not require, yes there are rich people also, because Africa is a big continent with so many countries. But still there are millions of people who do not have even minimum requirement of food, clothing and shelter.

i think africa has no means of harvesting any of those riches. it's drenched so much in blood and tears that nobody really cares except the western countries. personally i think the men there need to tame their snakes. cuz rape, aids, child prostitution, women leaking pee and poop for a long time after difficult births... where do these things all come from, really?

Maybe you should get on a slow boat for the CONTINENT of Africa and educate those people about how to utilize their resources. I'm sure you will be very successful, perhaps as successful as your command of the English language.

First, Africa is not a country! Second, it's stealing, not steeling!
But this is good to know, thank you. The USA will be happy to keep its money and humanitarian aid all to itself. Billions of dollars are better in our pockets then theirs.
