Killing people is always mean.
You have chosen a quite difficult issue to discuss among a public mainly born and educated in the U.S. by chance or on purpose. Actually you can make the same question just changing the names to describe the situation in other countries as well.

Sure there are differences between the Holocaust and the atomic bombing: in the first the victims at least knew what was going to happen and the reason, even if sick or evil. Some of the victims could even run away to other countries, like the german scientist who helped to develop the atomic bomb and further the NASA project.
In the second case, within a declared war it was decided to cook civilians, in the best of the cases. Many other survived and are still suffering the consequences of the huge radiation. So massive was the devastation that Hiroshima and Nagasaki will be always known as the japanese atomic cities that once had been destroyed with a single bomb.
I know that the german government keeps on paying in money an indemnity to the jewish survivors. Do the japanese get anything as well??? No clue; War is always tricky and dirty.

A single life is always precious, killing is not better while vaporizing thousands or steeming millions.
My position is clear as a catholic person. I am against abortion, executions, violence and discrimination.

Of course there is always a good reason to justify a war, rationally I understand the fear after Pearl Harbor. But it was necessary to go so far???
No way to go back in time to know it. This is our world and we have to live with all the horror as a part of our past as human beings.

The purpose of Holocaust is to kill the Jews, period. But the atomic bomb was to stop the war. Without the atomic bomb, can anyone estimate for how many years would the war have dragged on and how many more people had to die?? The purpose of Holocaust was to kill the Jews out of hatred. No other motives or reasons. Yes, the atomic bomb did kill a lot of people; that's true but the purpose was not to kill people but to stop the war. Yes, from the hind sight, atomic bomb and its effect had affected more people than expected. But at the same, from the hind sight, everything is 20/20. Based on what people knew then, atomic bomb was the best solution to end the war right then and there.

I believe the word "holocaust" refers to a situation similar to this, the planned execution of a group or sect of people. Hiroshima and Nagasaki was different, even though millions were killed, it was done only when Japan decided to fight to the death the invasion of its country. This would have resulted in millions of Japanese and Allied casualties. It took the bombing of these two cities before the powers in Japan recognized they had no hope of winning the war, or of a favorable truce. The holocaust was a planned extinction, the bombings were a way to force Japan to surrender, there is a big difference, but still at a great cost in human lives.

I think one reason is that The Holocaust was done out of hatred and an attempt to exterminate a race of people. Hiroshima and Nagacaki was doen out of an act to war. The Japanese said that they would never surrender. It was a way to end the war without risking anymore American lives. From an American point of view....the American government doesn't like to admit to wrongdoing. If they hadn't, that war could've gone on a lot longer with more Americans being killed. There were many more people killed in the Holocaust then the atomic bomb....not that that alone really makes any difference....people are still people.

I have learned that I am old enough to draw my own conclusion as to what, why, when, how, and where. These are events for the ages, meaning that every person with a mouth, opinion, and an interest will throw their opinions into the ring. It will seem like static after a while. The holocaust was something that Nazi Germany did to torture Jews. They were held against their will and tested on and tortured and put to death. The bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki also killed a lot of people, but in escence saved a number of lives of whom would have been killed had the war continued.

Hitler set out to exterminate - note that I said SET OUT - an entire race of people, plus a few groups that he didn't like.

Atomic bombs were dropped on Japan to end a war that had been started with the U.S. BY Japan. No one SET OUT with a political agenda to wipe out every Japanese person.

In other words, one action was taken by a meglomaniac psychopath with no agenda other than to destroy those he found unpalatable, the other action was taken in the course of fighting and trying to end a war.

If you can't see the difference between the two scenarios, then I'm afraid there's no help for you.
