His money and his fame have allowed him to do something he would never have been able to do. He may have attempted it without them, but without any success. After all, money and fame is what drives the planet's governments. :(

Yes Bono was well known BEFORE U2 were popular to help people especially in his war torn country of Ireland,he is a good man ,I doubt he just became that way after his money and popularity went up.

Well, if he has an altruistic spirit, then I suppose that he would. However, if he derived this spirit simply from being rich and looking down on poor people as people needing his help (that of a supposedly superior individual), then I would say no. But if U2 and the millions he got were a means to an end--the helping of poor people--by funding his efforts and giving his cause attention, then it seems he has a good character.

It's hard to say. I don't want to judge someone I don't know. There are lots of celebrities that don't do anything with their wealth and power, so you have to give the ones that do some credit. I've found that it's easy for celebrities to preach about charity when they have an endless supply of income.
Brad Pitt has pretty much lost my respect (if that's what that was called). I'm glad that he is doing things to help other people, but I'm so sick of him complaining about the people in this world doing nothing to help others. He has several multi-millions dollar homes and everything else he could want...what's left but to start being charitable.
I will have more respect for a charitable celebrity that lives comfortably, but not in excess, and gives the rest to charity.

Probably. U2's early music is very Christian in nature, although that part of the band's makeup was not flaunted. Listen to "Sunday, Bloody Sunday" again. Listen for the "victory Jesus won" line. Listen to "Pride (In the Name of Love)" again, too. I think if he hadn't become rich and famous, he might have become a relief worker.

He would probably attempt to, but clearly his financial success gives him the wherewithal to be able to engage in the degree of philanthropy that he chooses to engage in.

I would think yes but we wouldn't hear about it because he wouldn't be popular enough for anyone to care.
