Snoopy's nemesis was The Red Baron, and Snoopy's alter ego was The World War I Flying Ace.

He debuted for the first time on October 10, 1965 and recurred throughout the life of the strip and the animated specials.

Check out Derrick Bang's awesome rundown of all of Snoopy's personae at http://www.peanutscollectorclub.com/snoopy.html.

Snoopy was the "high-flying ace" who flew a Sopwith Camel (his dog house). He was always getting shot down by his enemy, the Red Baron. As Snoopy would say in the comic strips, "Curse you, Red Baron!"
