I have a friend who goes everywhere barefoot - to work, around town - EVERYWHERE. He never wears shoes and is always barefoot.

Should I advise him to think again and start wearing shoes?

It is fine to go barefoot except maybe to formal events. I really enjoy going barefoot and can see the reason why he does it.

Say nothing he is living out a barefooters lifestyle. He is not on his own.

Well, never heard of someone going to work and town barefooted....Shirt and shoes are required here to enter a business.....NE ways, I love going barefoot--at home of course.
I recommend him wearing at least sandals to work and around town.

Why is it bothering you so much? I say to just let it go. Your friend could be doing alot worse.

If people think less of him, that's his problem. It's up to whoever at his job and wherever he goes to tell him whether or not he must wear shoes.

Ask him why he does it. Maybe his answer will help free up your animosity towards it.

Well his feet, while probably very dirty and ugly looking, would be very strong and tough which I think is a good thing, very handy in some situations. However if he goes to formal things in barefeet you probably should advise him against it, I don't think many would approve of it.

Other than being denied service because of the "no shoes, no shirt, no service" policy, it's his feet and I wish I could do the same!

What do you have to gain by doing so? If you think it would help and he doesn't, will it end the friendship? If not, then mention it and then let it go.

well, it seems to make him quite happy so i say, to heck with him. let him. telling him to wear shoes probably will make him upset and crap, even though you mean well.

Are they your feet?

No?

Then no, you shouldn't... he'll figure it out when he steps on a lit cig or glass.
