When talking about her work, my girlfriend tends to complain about the same things over and over. Usually the complaints are about the mundane stupid things her coworkers do that upset her. I want to be supportive, but I find myself unable to pay attention since I already know what she is going to say and there is no hope of her coworkers every changing. My girlfriend can tell that I am not paying attention no matter how hard I try to look enthused. Any tips?

I learned a long time ago never to try and solve her problem, just listen. The main difficulty is PAYING ATTENTION. I try and try, but my mind wanders. Then I find her staring at me blankly looking for a response. "I can't believe they did that," I offer in support. But she sees my bluff. I need tips on how to actually pay better attention.

Hi. This is from a girl who does the exact same thing (meaning, all girls do this, so you can never really escape it). What I like my boyfriend to do is just repeat a few of the things I say: like, if I mention that someone keeps sending me useless emails, he'll say "so how many useless emails did you get from that idiot today?" That way, I feel like he's paying attention: though I know he isn't. Another good idea is to not look TOO enthused: she doesn't expect you to be interested. She's bitching. She just expects you to LISTEN.

PS. You seem to be a very kind, caring boyfriend. Most guys just ignore their girlfriend/wife when they complain, but you seem to actually want to help.

Start to agree with her (even if you don't)because you know that is a form of gossiping and when we women gossip we want the person we are gossiping to to simply agree with us and then it will die off or when she comes in from work you start by asking what those women do today at work and she may not want to talk because women not too crazy about their men asking or curious about another womans behavior.

Just listen and say your co-workers suck. Don't offer a solution because that is where I get into trouble. My wife just wants me to listen in these situations and never ever take the co-workers side by mistake even.

Tell her about Yahoo!Answers and tell her to let it out...tell her she can get answers and options from different people on one question and she can choose to her liking.
