I'm loyal to my first fantasy LOTR, but I assume you already know about that one. And I assume you've read Feist. Jordan. Brooks, Lackey, Eddings, Card and all the other big names. So here are a few lesser known ones you might enjoy.

If you can find it, The Riddlemaster of Hed trilogy by Patricia McKillip has always been one of my favorites. And there are 2 Renshai trilogies by Michey Zucker Reichert which are a little different. I also like Gayle Greeno's books on the Ghatti, but perhaps it's an acquired taste because none of my friends seems to enjoy them as much as I do. Melanie Rawn's Dragon Prince and Dragon Star trilogies are also fun. Thanks for asking a question that let me recall so many fun books.

Hi there. I'm the author of a new medieval fantasy book that you might like. The title is THE BLACKGLOOM BOUNTY. It's 445 pages of action, adventure, magic, mystery and mayhem. If you like Conan, LOTR or Harry Potter type books, this may be one you'll enjoy.

Good luck, whatever you decide to read!

Jon F. Baxley (Author, Editor, Ghostwriter and Proofreader)

THE SCYTHIAN STONE (eBook only)
THE BLACKGLOOM BOUNTY (eBook and hard cover)
THE REGENTS OF RHUM (coming fall '07)

Major Media Reviews:

Publishers Weekly

STARRED Review. A fast pace, sly humor, amusing dialogue and a richly researched background lift Baxley's fantasy, the first of a new series set in medieval Britain. When Merlin's long-ago apprentice Kruzurk Makshare (aka the Boozer) receives a dreamlike visitation from the legendary mage, he learns he must destroy another former apprentice, the villainous Seed of Cerberus. To do so will require a visit to the demon-guarded Blackgloom Keep. Enter young Daynin McKinnon, who discovers a curious rune-covered headstone, which may be the fabled Blackgloom Bounty, and brings it to Kruz's attention. Kruz believes it will provide entry into the fortress, while Daynin hopes the sale of the stone will restore his family's fortunes. The colorful cast of good guys and ne'er-do-wells includes the Pictish ghost of Brude McAlpin liberated from his tomb, assorted pursuing Caledonians and a bemused Prior Bede, whose monastery serves as a hiding place for the Blackgloom Bounty. Suitable for fantasy enthusiasts of all ages.

I'd be surprised if you hadn't heard of the Harry Potter series by now, but they're definitely my favorite fantasy series. Another good trilogy is the Inheritance Trilogy by Christopher Paolini. Good luck finding other books!

Well it wasn't a single book but the best fantasy reading I have done in a while now is the Dark Elf series by R. A. Salvatore. Drizzt Do'Urden is probably one of my all time favorite characters in all of literature.

I really liked the Belgariad series of books by David Eddings. He has some other great series as well, but Belgariad was my favorite- I highly recommend it.
