just do it. Nike didn't invent the phrase.

Well if your addicted to watching Tool Time re-runs the process is quite different then say if your mainlining a couple bags of heroin a day? I'd suggest shooting the TV set for the Tool Time problem and inpatient treatment for the latter. Whatever the problem it will involve a commitment on your part to change this behavior that is causing you problems in your life. Sometimes we can solve these problems by ourselves other times professional help and 12 step programs are the only road to recovery. Good luck

First, some addictions require medical treatment, you can't quit cold turkey (i.e alcohol and heroin). Then you have to change your environment, stop hanging with friends that support the addiction and places where you have access to the "drug". Next is the mental process to change your way of thinking (which is probably the hardest part), you have to want change. Seek help ASAP. Change is never easy. I hope this gives you an idea of what can be involved in quitting.

Let's assume your need for the addiction is due to your body sensing that there is too little food in your blood stream to keep your brain alive. Food in the bloodstream is glucose (a form of sugar), and is made from your digestive processes breaking down the food you eat into that basic sugar. An addiction can gte quick sugar into your bloodstream by direct infusion (alcohol) or possibly by providing stimulation to your adrenal glands or other methods (drugs).
If that is the case, which can be tested by having a doctor test your insulin level (a fasting blood insulin test), which should test high, or a glucose tolerance test of 6 hour length (insist on 6 hours) which should show a drop of more than 50 in a one hour period, or a drop below 70 at any time.
If these test both are positive, the solution is to eat foods that satisfy your body's need for sugar without overdoing, or to trick your body into being satisfied with a lower level of sugar. Suggest to the doctor that you are concerned about becoming a diabetic. Do you have a family history of diabetes? This may allow him/her to order the tests.
For basic information on hypoglycemia, check out www.hufa.org. For basic information on hyperinsulinemia, check out www.mayoclinic.com and search for hyperinsulinemia.

If you're talking about addiction to drugs and/or alcohol then a detox program is a good start, followed with treatment and a 12 Step program. It involves alot of "maintance" but well worth it!!! I've been clean for almost 6yrs now.!!!
Fighting addiction involves alot of differant components, 1st one being Will Power followed with changes in lifestyle, sometimes even the people who hang out with or the places you go. It's best to find someone that you can be honest with you and you can be honest with about Everything. Ask them to kinda watchdog you so that if you find yourself slipping backwards they can support you and help you get through it. Good Luck, no matter what your addiction is, I hope you get through it.

You never stop 100% at least thinking about something you were addicted to
Most people have to try multiple times to stop something, Each person is different with what helps them stop
Could be, medication, therapy, meetings, or some just quit "cold turkey"
For everyone it's different

Go to a 12-step group based on that addiction - it all started with Alcoholics Anonymous many years ago and has grown into all kinds of groups.

It is a day by day process. I just quit and told myself"I am my own master---if I want to quit I can and if I want to go back to this Ican--------but for today I do not want to do this. I think of all the bad it has done to me and how much better i feel now and I have done this everyday for 2 years and I never went back! I have faith in God, which has helped me through too.

Depends on what it is. Have will power and stop the addiction. Therapy might help to.
