He doesn't know where New Orleans is. Africa has better weather and less paparazzi.

Well think about this. Bono isn't an American. He is British and he would be more concerned about his country first if that was his focus.
Instead he chooses to focus his attention to Africa, the most impoverished continent in the world.
Also understand that the US isn't the world's most favorite right now. And some around the world may see the situation in New Orleans as "just desserts" from what has been going on in Iraq. Not saying that Bono feels that way, but people around the world do.
If NO is to be cleaned up and repaired, it takes a collaborative effort from the people of that region, US and the government to make it right again.
Since the US has the resources to do that, Bono will not put too much effort into that.

As an African, I think Bono has the right idea. Not so much the right solutions, but the right idea. It's true that what happened in New Orleans is horrible, but it's not something new in America. Even if you could put everything back to the way it was before, more than half of those people would still be living in poverty! The only reason no one cared before, is because this is America. Africa has had a lot more serious problems for more than a hundred years, than a flood in New Orleans. People have died of illness that have cures, because they can't afford the medication.

I can't believe someone asked this question. New Orleans was way over due for a catastrophe. When you live below sea level, you are bound to get wet. I think Katrina took care of a problem New Orleans has had for a long time, and that is sub-standard structures. Then, when citizens do get money, it's mis-used, much like the money that is sent to Africa. Greed is everywhere, and so is poverty. New Orleans is no more important than Africa, Sri Lanka or Indonesia, which also suffered catastrophes. The only thing New Orleans and the rest of the Gulf States have is that they are not in Europe but in America. People in La, New Orleans, etc. need to stop whining. They got money and misused it to by breast implants, sex changes, whatever. How do those purchases improve your home? The should have used the money to move out of Louisiana and start a new life.

I think Bono is doing a wonderful job and has been for years regarding Africa and helping the people there who are under privileged. The people of New Orleans have been provided for and can get back into the swing of things by seeking employment like all Americans have to do when they loose their homes, jobs, and belongings. Your question should be, "why isn't Bush worrying about New Orleans"?

First of all, Bono is not from the US, so he has very little real obligation to 'do something' about New Orleans. New Orleans is a beautiful place with beautiful people...in the richest country in the world. America needs to take care of New Orleans, instead, we sit and look at how sad it is and get angry about the corruption involved in that tragic event. But, no one does a thing about it.
Africa, on the other hand, is a continent composed of most of the poorest countries in the world dealt with a double blow of extreme corruption. 9000 people a day die of starvation there...few people are still dying as a result of New Orleans.
It is rediculous to get angry at someone who is working to make a change anyplace in the world, there are a lot of celebrities with a lot of money who do nothing all day long to help any place in the world (i.e. isn't Brittney Spears FROM louisiana?) Futher more, people pay attention when celebrities ask for money/time, that is the nature of being a celebrity. Further more, if they give up all their money and live like the average person, then they have to work too hard to have time to save the world. At least I know the money that he has received from me in Royalties is going somewhere.

New Orleans not being right is systemic. The government allowed the area to be overdeveloped due to powerful real estate special interest groups/lobbyists. Development altered natural flood patterns and destroyed protective wetlands. The same government was ill-prepared to handle a hurricane like Katrina (your bureaucracy inaction). Rather than admit the mistakes made, much of the time following Katrina was spent making excuses and pointing fingers. Apparently, the government is more interested in CYA than in actually accomplishing anything efficiently and quickly. The disaster of Katrina is not only a natural phenomenon but also a man-made (government-made) one.
But even at its most inept, our government does more for its people than most of the nations in Africa. As poor as our poor are, it is nothing compared to what is happening in Africa. In the Darfur area of Sudan alone, one million people are homeless, 30,000 have been killed, and famine could claim the lives of thousands more. In sub-Saharan Africa, approximately 2 million adults and children died as a result of AIDS last year alone.
Bono chooses to be a citizen of the world. He chooses to focus his money, time, and fame on the problems occuring on the African continent. The question shouldn't be why is Bono worrying about Africa instead of New Orleans. The question should be why is the US worrying about Iraq when New Orleans isn't right yet?

IMHO: New Orleans is being rebuilt (I'm sure Bono was horrified like the rest of us to see those people forgotten by the g'ment after the storms) personally I will have a hard time ever going back there, it wont be the same. Africa is a beautiful country that has spiraled out of control due to g'ment greed and dirty politics.
Bono has brought alot of awareness to the plight in Africa, it takes someone of his stature to even get people to listen at all, (New Orleans happened under our own nose and we're still not *getting it*, where are the stars from our own country?? best we got was Tim McGraw and Faith Hill going to N.O. with a tractor trailer full of stuff).
BTW:Entertainers make their huge salaries due to the people that buy their albums, movies etc. It's our own doing that they are so rich, they've worked hard for their money, we've paid their salaries and some, like Bono, take their own earnings to raise awareness and get involved.

1. Bono's not an American, so he probably doesn't have the same "take care of those at home" mentality.
2. I'm sorry, but the situation in Africa is far worse than the situation here.
another thing that gets overlooked, and Im not saying that we shouldn't help New Orleans, but THEY ALL NEW that in the instance of a hurricane they would be screwed. Don't be pissin and moanin now for the world to stop it all and help you when you had a hundred years to prepare. Cut down on the Mardi Gras and build some friggin levees next time.

because America, being one of the RICHEST countries in the world SHOULD BE TAKING CARE OF THEIR OWN. However, since the country is being run by a cowboy, that's not likely to happen. Theres no oil in New Orleans ya know, so dont expect help from this administration. Leave Bono alone, he's only one man, but at least he's trying to do something. When's the last time YOU gave money to New Orleans, or to a homeless guy on the street??

Is it assumed that things matter only when they happen in America? Bono takes a view of the world as a whole, and there is no doubt to anyone with half a brain that Africa has a lot more problems for a lot more people than New Orleans, or indeed anyone else on any other continent. America is the richest nation in the history of civilization and should be able to help itself out of difficulties like Katrina. You need to get out more. Hardship means more than not having your air conditioning working properly.
