I totally agree with this:

A stupid ruling was made a couple of years back that changed the amount of water used per flush (I know that the present water saving ones use 6 litres while the old ones used 8 - 10 litres per flush).

The so called experts claimed that using less watewr per flush would save a lot of water. However, since these stupid things do not flush well, we end up having to flush twice!

When I renovated my house, I looked around for some old stock and used those instead in my house. Try it...you may just find some pre-water saving ones.

Try this first. Open the toilet and very carefully bend the rod on the part that floats. Bend it so that the float is higher. This will allow the tank to hold more water. Then when you flush it should allow from a 1-2 gallon difference in water used. Let me know if it works.

Ps. Don't break the rod.

Good Luck: Andy

Both American Standard and Kohler make units that are supposed to be the better flushers out today. American Standard boosts the ability to flush something like 36 golf balls with their toilet. Home Depot used to carry these, you can check them both out there.

It may have nothing to do with your toilet but with your sewer lines or septic tank depending on where you live. I would have a professional take a look at it before spending money on something that maybe working just fine and if you buy another toilet the new one could act the same because that wasn't the problem
