think of it... if the spell had rebounded to lord voldemort and he still lived, then he may also be considered a survivor of the killing curse... it may also prove that he is very very powerful because he had survived the aveda kedavra without any counter-curse, remember that harry had a counter curse and that is the old magic of her mom in which her mom had sacrificed her life because of love.

Here's my theory:

Dumbledore says that there should be 7 pieces of LV's soul out there. 1 in his body, the ring, the cup, the locket, the diary, the snake, something of Ravenclaw or Griffindore. We know that the ring & diary have been eliminated but I also think that the piece that was in his body at the time that he tried to curse Harry was also eliminated. Which would bring the count down to 4 pieces. 3 horcruxes & the piece in his body now. Don't know if i'm right but it seems logical to me.

Yes Harry is the only witch or wizard that did survive the aveda Kedavra curise all because of his mother's love. But as for Lord Voldemort he barely survive the curise and had to wait for book 4 to regain a body. Up until that time he had to live behind the head of a wizard that became the Defense of the Dark Arts teacher at Hogsworth in the first Harry Potter book. Then he had to live in the bodies of animals. Yes Lord Voldemort is a great wizard but in the end we all know he has to die for the 7 book series to end.

Well you could say that Voldemort didn't get the full blast of it as it was rebounded from Harry, who might have absorbed most of the blast. If Voldemort wasn't hit by the full blast, only a secondary or counter-blast, then he really can't be called a survivor of it and wouldn't have needed a counter-curse to survive it.
Also, if he performed the spell can you really say that he was hit by it? Can a person aveda kedavra themselves? I think that'd go into some other catagory of spells.

Since this is all fantasy ( and poorly written fantasy ), here goes a theory:

Voldemort wasn't hit with the Aveda Kedavra curse. The curse was dispersed by Harry, but, there was so much energy involved that it was the energy blast that crippled Voldemort. Also, ( another idea ) Voldemort is so evil that even if he were to die of natural causes, his hate would keep that remnant of soul alive. Remember, Voldemort has stashed away his soul in different places ( oops, did I give away the plot to The Half-Blood Prince ? ) so, what was slithering around in Romania may have been the remnants of what was left of the primary Voldemort with a boost of a previous soul split.

Remember Lord Voldamort had protected his mortality. He split his soul among the Horcruxes and can not be killed unless they are destroyed. Thus the Aveda Kedavra curse simply destroyed his body. His spirit remaided, roaming until Peter Pettigrew found him and aided his bodily restoration. Harry on the other hand survived the killing curse as he was protected by the strongest marriage possible. Unconditional love. Lilly and James gave up their life for Harry and thus he was protected.

`the only (Harry Potter) with the capability to beat the darkish Lord techniques… born to those that have three times defied him (mothers and fathers the two Frank and Alice Longbottom, or James and Lily Potter), born because of the fact the 7th month dies (July 31) … and the darkish Lord will mark him as his equivalent (With an extremely !@#$ scar), yet he will have capability the darkish Lord is acquainted with no longer (in all probability the reason Harry Lived)… and the two (or the two) ought to die on the hand of the different (Voldemort and Harry or Voldemort and Neville) for neither can stay on an identical time as the different survives (in all probability means Neville could ought to kill one yet another) … the only with the capability to beat the darkish Lord would be born because of the fact the 7th month dies`

Hey u r right! I never even thought of that! Wow this could change a lot! I see your ? but I am not really sure what the answer is. I wish I could help more(I have read all the books) but maybe it has something to do with the transfer of powers back and forth between Harry and Voldemot?? That is all I can figure.

If you can call being reduced to the faintest echo of an existence as happened in Valdemort's case "surviving", then I guess you have a point.

In my opinion, having one's body destroyed completely and only hanging on to existence as a spiritual entity is not surviving.

Mad Eye Moody comments about that in "Goblet of Fire".

It also shows how strong Mr. Riddle is. I assume that as a rebound curse, it lost just enough of the edge not to kill Mr. Riddle.

I think lord voldermort cast the killing curse so it didn't have the same effect on someone that wouldn't have cast the curse.
