I moved out of my last place, still had months to go. we moved into a old house, the landlord told us we could not open the windows. we froze in the winter, and sweat in the summer. I lasted five months. I had seven months to go. I just left the keys and moved out. I cleaned the place and said nothing. just move out and leave the keys on the counter. but clean up the place, don't leave it a mess. don't tell anyone where you are moving, just move out.

Well if you put down a security deposit and if it is enough to cover your rent then they will just keep that, however they could take you to court to get what is owed to them. Then if you still don't pay you are in violation of a court order and then the court could give you some jail time to think about it. I do believe after you get out you still have to pay. Bear this in mind this is only my opinion but I do believe that is the way the system works.

Depends on how anal they are. They could take you to small claims court. That is the ONLY way they could get their money. Small claims court only awards a judgement, they won't be able to place a lien to collect, though. Again, depending on the anality of it all (I made up a word!!!) they could also report you to a credit reporting agency but that takes effort it sounds like they don't have the professionalism to give. Ohio in the house!!

Technically, you are breaking a contract (i'm assuming you signed a contract when you moved in), I'm sure it says on the contract what actions they can take if you fail to pay your rent. I would assume that they can take legal action against you...if they would take the time and money to collect 550 is the question.

They could turn you over to a collection agency, which result in messing up your credit and possibly have to go to court. Not to mention, if you are planning on buying a house in the future, it will hurt you when you go to get the loan.

did you sign a lease? There is nothing for them to take you to court with. Tell them you'll give them 1/2 when you have it.
