Those were the simple, cozy sit back shows that required NO lighting effects~just action packed gun slingers in bar room brawls and when simply elegant dressed Ladies cared about their cowboy.
I guess Hollywood thinks everybody wants MORE action than that
I always enjoyed Westerns ie...John Wayne, Clint Eastwood etc..

I think because that era is so far behind us now that the majority of this generation would not be interested.
Now the movies are about space, science fiction plus blood and gore. Fast pace and hard hitting.
There have been a few Western movies made but they are not the same as what the older ones were made of.
No, I don't consider Broke Back Mountain to be a good western at all! But it sold and made money...

I don't think they're 'no longer made', they're just much fewer and further between. In the 90's we had Unforgiven, which was incredible, and The Quick and The Dead, which doesn't hold a candle to Unforgiven but is still fairly enjoyable in a very Sam Raimi kind of way. I notice no-one ever mentions Open Range, came out a few years ago, with Kevin Costner, I'd urge anyone to watch that as it is very decent. I guess there's just not that much call for them when you don't have people as purely enigmatic as Clint or John Wayne.

Because no director is capable of making any decent western movie like the good the bad and the ugly..

They ran out of spaghetti. That and John Wayne's ghost came back and threatened every studio that contemplated making a really good western because he wanted to be remembered as the best cowboy type actor.

For the same reason that hardly any decent movies are made anymore. Blood, sex, n violence is what sells rite now.

Hollywood produces what they think will make money, and what makes money is whatever's popular. Right now, the idea of "western" is not in style.

Because everyone now knows that Yankees are strong, brave and that they always win.
The lesson is learned, so there is no need to continue with that kind of propaganda activities.
