I started having globs of mucus in my discharge at 20weeks, about once a week, and they were pretty large, very thick, and looked like eggwhite, only thicker. Almost solid. I questioned if it was the mucus plug, but was told that it was nothing to worry about. Since there was no blood, I left it at that. At 24 weeks I was now having it daily, and then I had a glob of mucus that was red-stained. The rest of my discharge was still white/clear. A few hours later I had some bleeding which quickly resolved itself. After ultrasounds there were no problems found. Two weeks later I had a similar glob of mucus, but it was read and dark brown. As far as I know, they both fit descriptors of the mucus plug. But at a recent exam (27 weeks) she said that she found some but it appeared to be ordinary mucus (though it was brown) and not the mucus plug. I really thought that having blood in it and looking like snot was a good way to tell, but now I'm not so sure.

Didn't have much room to add, but I was also pregnant before, and I heard that the cervix can be softer the second time around. This pregnancy has been so much different from my first, so it seems like every little thing worries me. They did say that my cervix was long and only mildly (less than a fingertip) dilated, but that little bit of dilation was most likely due to having had one child before. I'm more worried that I won't know what the mucus plug looks like when it comes, since what I've had already was really gross, red, and heavily mucus-ish. Now I'm not sure I'll tell the difference when it does happen.

There are going to be alot of "things" come out of your vagina while you're pregnant. Mucous builds near the cervix for protection, and every so often, it will shed while new stuff is coming in. If the blood is pink or red, and there is only a little, it could be because you had sex, or walked alot. Pressure will break little blood vessels. If the blood is brown or rust colored, then it is old, and could be residual from a broken vessel weeks ago. If all your ultrasounds and internal examinations found everything okay, then there is nothing to worry about. If you wake up one morning and you are "passing" large globs all day that are pink or red, then see your gyno again.

there is a lot of stuff that happens down there so it wouldn't surprise me to hear it was just some mucus. Your ob can tell if you have lost your mucus plug so if she says that it was not the plug than it is most likely just some of the fun stuff that we have to deal with when pg. I think that I had to wear a pantyliner for most of my pregnancy because of the mucus. Don't worry (like it is that simple huh), if all the tests are saying things are ok then you are doing everything you can do make sure things are being checked out.

Don't worry about the mucus. As long as your water hasn't broke, then the baby it totally protected. Losing your plug doesn't mean birth is close, it just means you lost it. So relax and enjoy the pregnancy.

This is typically normal, it does get really heavy that you have to wear a liner or pad. Don't worry it isn't you mucus plug just the normal discharge.
