For chinese, Happy China on Olive west of 270 at Fee Fee. It's buffet, service is good, and they have a large selection. For Italian, Del Pietro's, I think it's on Hampton?I had seafood alfredo, huge portion. For Ladies' who lunch, Miss Aimee B's at St. Charles. At Fairview Heights, try Lottawatta, the line can get long, but the portions are huge. There is a Hoolihan's at Fairview Heights, too. I got a huge piece of delicious mushroom quiche. It was good.
I checked, Del Pietro's is on Hampton.
For chain restaurants, we like Longhorn, we like the texican spicy stuff. Can't beat Red Lobster for seafood, and we liked the Cracker Barrel for their prices and broad menu. We tried Joe's Crab shack, found it pricey. I had the cheese crab dip, yum.
In Alton, try Tony's. Good Italian, and american food, and sweet pizza sauce. I had the stuffed shrimp. Good. Try My Just Dessert's on Broadway. Sandwiches and WOW desserts. Or the Blue Owl at KImswick. Nice variety of menu items, and more WOW desserts.
I always wanted to try the Crown Candy Company, but haven't yet, and Hodack's was just featured on food network. I always wanted to go to the St. Louis Tony's, do not even know if they are open for lunch.
Hope this helps, I tried to take you to several areas in and around the city.

Go to the Boathouse at Forest Park. The service is great and it is right on the little marina at Forest Park. The food is affordable but very good.
