softcore doesn't really show anything, whereas, hardcore shows everything in detail.

Softcore are the type of movies you see on CInemax and Showtime that don't show anything other than implied sex. The hardcore is actual sex being filmed including penetration and ejaculation.
P.s. there is no such rating in the mpaaa as xxx. there is only an x rating meaning no one under 18 admitted. XXX was invented as if to imply it is better than regular x rating

Softcore porn uses lots of implied penetration and you will not see the genital areas of either men or women.
Hardcore porn shows full nudity and penetrations as well as different types of sex, bondaged...etc.
