HI, I'm not sure if this is how casino's originated. However, I did learn that Casinos were created so that the Natives could make money, since they were knocked off their land and put on reservations.

I believe the Flamingo Hotel / Casino became the first ever--which led to the eventual creation of Las Vegas itself.

I'd seek some historical info on the place. It was created by mobster "Bugsy" Siegel. Historychannel.com and it's biography sections have the information you'll need for this project.
