Isn't it impossible to get a life if you are poor?

When I think of the phrase, "get a life!" or when I think of why certain individuals need to get one, it's because of some of the answers above. It's also because some people and maybe ourselves, at times, seem to dwell on trivial things. It's making mountains out of molehills, and focusing on itty bitty stuff...a small minded way of thinking, so to speak. It's not being very broad minded. It also shows up as being angry over some small, stupid stuff. Basically, when we tell someone to "get a lfe", we really mean that they should expand their thinking to bigger things, and perhaps spend time with others who have fun, so they wouldn't be focusing on those pesty, little annoyances.
Yes, it is possible to get a life, even if you are poor..as it's not about money, it's about having charactor.
side note: Sometimes when I spend way toooooo much time reading and writing answers here, I say to myself, "GET A LIFE!!!! ;~)

yeah that phrase isn't about money. It is used if someone is nosy and gossips a lot or is constantly under foot. Someone who has nothing better to do than worry about everyone else.
A man said it in a really mean way to me last week because I had to work 19 hours one day and nine each the next two

You dont need to be rich to have ahappy and fulfilled life its all about interrgrating socially in your community and making you life as joyous and happy as possible. Whatever wakes you up inside makes you feel good and apreciated and loved is getting a life.

Life means much more than that.Life must have a mission, an objective.This must be pursued honestly and by hard work.Life is meant to be lived simply with lofty ideals and high thinking.
