I think the french had a great impact on the common potato.
The French have a long and proud history of surrender. It makes them easy targets. I have been to Europe, but never France, I have no desire to go there. The french folks I have met here are kind of...sort of...wishy washy tree huggy long armpit hair typed people. I had a french teacher who was french and she could have braided her armpit hair-and she insisted on wearing sun dresses-ick. (I had a german teacher who was german who was equally awful and told terrible Jew jokes in class.)
That aside, I have nothing against the french. If nothing else, they are predictable.

My God, some of the answers on here are rather misinformed...
I'm British, and although France and Britain are meant to hate eachother (for various historical reasons I'm not going into) I personally love France. And the French people I've met. I lived in France for a year and deal with the French everyday in my job, and I still love France.
Some policies and attitudes disagree with my own views, but that is just a cultural difference. If we didn't have cultural differences we'd be......The United States of Europe. I'd rather have an opinion on a different country than be completely uniform and just regurgitate everything I've heard without having a reason behind it.
The French are just another race. And they've made more contribution to history and culture than some races.
Before judging France (or any country really) you should go and experience it. Then you can make your own mind up instead of listening to cultural stereotypes.
Vive la France!

I assume you are American. Everyone else does not hate the French or France, but I can understand why you might think that is the case. Your media certainly encourages you to hate France, but step outside of the USA and you will see that France is actually admired and respected throughout the world. Even I love France and the French, and I am British - we are supposed to dislike them (but secretly we admire them and their beautiful country and culture).
The people who hate France are just a very loud-mouthed minority of your fellow countrymen who cannot accept that France did not wish to participate in the US's illegal war in Iraq. These are the people behind "Freedom Fries". You can make your own judgement on those kinds of people.
What may shock you is that it is actually America that is hated by the world! Don't take this personally though. It's kind of complicated. Hating America is like hating the big fat stupid bully with rich parents at school who has no respect for anyone or anything. Who can like a person like that? Again, you can blame your media for a lot of that. And GWB.
I love the fact that you are questioning this. You can see behind the lies you are being fed. Good for you! I'm guessing you are at school - when you leave school, travel the world, go to France, to Europe. Leave America behind for a few months. You will realise all the lies you have been fed, and you will see with your own eyes what a great country France is, and what great people the French are.
Freedom, Brotherhood, and Equality. Good stuff, and they actually mean it, too.

It makes no sense to hate France. You might as well hate Germans. The French monarchs, like everywhere else in Europe, came from Germany. They terrorized the native Gallo-Roman population with feudalism. The guillotine was the best thing that happened to mankind. There used to be a hundred different ways for the German kings to kill you with God on their side. People who hate the French, should hate Germany instead, or perhaps God and life for creating the Germans.

France is a nice place, I assume, but I don't like the language. I'm not speaking in political terms either. It has a nice climate and I doubt the people aren't as bad as people make them out to be.

Well, In France the people, landscape and the culture are gorgous and nobody should hate that. It is just the government. The government is completly not trustworthy and worthless. Thats one of the reasons why france is pretty poor.

France is a beautifula nd historic country. It's people tho are sterotyped as being very rude and well, French. Then again, so are New Yorkers. Live and let live. C'est la vie.
