Neither of us knows who the best on Yahoo! Answers is. I'm pretty sure it's neither of us, though we have been the most consistently active with useful answers, rating and voting. The points at that level don't mean anything at all so you don't really have to pay any attention to them.
You know who the best answerer is, though. It's whoever has answered one of your own questions the best. I have a few who are my personal favorites, but they have nowhere as many points as I do. Still, I would consider them the best subjectively. (No names, sorry.)

My nickname is Jez too.
The most interesting answerers and questioners are those that stimulate further thought.
Obviously it is nice to get a concrete and clear answer, but I believe that many of the best answers will never make best answer.
It may be that they state a view that few others share. In many cases that is a great thing. Nothing is worse than sitting at a table discussing something that everyone agrees on... why bother?
Also, the questions make the site. I pity anyone who looks at a question and thinks "oh youre so dumb". A person asking a question may be short of info on one topic or another, but they are curious and interested in furthering their own knowledge and that is great.
Ive checked out some of their answers. They are equally good. Balanced, clear, thoughtful.

When I started answering questions, Jane was on the top of the leaderboard. In the weeks I have been active, Kevin overtook her and is now the leader.
Jane and Kevin are separated by less than a thousand points and each have more than 16,000 points this week. I think it depends on which one has the time to answer questions, and vote and rate more than the other.
One thing is clear, one of them would have to take three straight weeks off for number 3 to knock one of them down! Even then, Richard would have to step it up to compensate for the 'Thumbs up' score that goes on even if you don't answer questions (and vote and rate!)
In my time on Answers I have vacillated between wanting points, a new level and the positive self image boost of the feedback from an answer that is openly appreciated.
So regarding your experience of Answers, Did you ever expect to get an answer from one of the celebrities?

The scores and position on either leaderboard are not a good indicator of who is 'best', in my opinion.
I'll agree with Jane. The person who is best is the one who answers a particular asker's question the best. So 'best' differs from question to question and from asker to asker.
There are many fine answerers who focus on a very narrow field of questions. They may not earn a lot of points for their efforts, but they still answer well and earn 'best answers' and thanks from the askers. These are the people who are 'best'.

I can see your point/question, but I think you should ask yourself why you are asking it.
