I'm writing my final dissertation for a degree in Politics, I am particularly interested in International Security and terrorism and have specialised in these areas alongside American politics and International Relations. Problem is, I can't find a dissertation topic! I know how to go about researching, but I need suggestions of topics for inspiration!!!

How about this as an idea... the United States following England in the 1800s and going through Empire Decline. Most people like to think of the USA as a Rome who conquered a large territory and fell violently but there is a better theory out there that the USA, though we declared our independance from England, is following right in Mother England's footsteps and we are moving from our superpower status and entering a period of a declining empire which is why we turn our attention towards things like Security and Terrorism and attacking other countries. It would look at our regulations that are being used to tie our hands behind our backs. It has been said that once you lose your power in other realms you move to the military might. If you want to end on an up note you could make some suggestions as to how we could turn it all around. It would be interesting.
