First, be patient. Chords are really tough at first! It took me months to be able to change chords. Your fingers will hurt a lot too, but it's okay, they will toughen up and you'll get tough pads of skin on your fingertips.
Don't bother trying to learn to read music, it's too much like hard work. All those dots! Forget about it.
Get a chord book, learn the major chords A D and E to start, and a couple of the minor chords, maybe A minor and E minor. You can play millions of songs with these chords. Then go for C and G. Once you have mastered these you should be able to grow quickly.
Don't worry about F and B for the time being though, they're really hard to play when you start. You can learn them later - it's okay - you probably won't need them. I've been playing guitar for years and I will usually avoid F and B. Funny thing is, you never seem to miss them. B minor is ok though.
The best tip I can give you is to enjoy it. I started to play guitar because it amazed me, and still does, that I was able to pick up an instrument and make some noises that I liked. As long as you play things that sound nice & interesting to you - that's what guitar is all about.
Best of luck.
