They did so to please the rest of the world. However, most of the money was for healthcare, schools, and food. The weapons were a result of the small nation of Israel being pressured, even by America. That is why Bush will not stop Israel. He knows Hamas is a terror group.

Fully agree with Bobo. Killing each other in an endless cycle of violence is plain madness.

In fact many Malaysian politicians are talking plain stupid by suggesting a scenario of a expanded war with Iran and Syria drawn into a conflict with Israel. Talks like these are actually fermenting more bloodshed.

Both side did not stand to gain from the conflicts for many many decades. There is still no solution to date.

Why not pass over the deads and start anew as di by the previous Plaestinian government, as escalated conflicts means massive deaths, devastation, and more misery to the region. Where each side starts with building a better life through peace, there is more more to gain from the greater breathing space for the people there and the whole region stability.

Tolerating Hamas is a good thing, despite the frequent rocket attacks against Israel. Hamas going for an enlarged war by its usual harassments will not mean anything close to a clear victory.

Hamas is not doing its sum correct. Two kinapped soldiers in exchange for multiple deaths is bad thinking. Hamas has to look to better way of fighting the war than mere guerilla tactics.

Israel's right of defence or response to attack is also not good reason for secuirty and survival. They should have allowed also the setting up of a Palestinian state to run their own lives, without the control on what the Palestinians can or cannot do on the occupied land. The long 20 feet walls will never be the mean to end the war by keeping out the the rocket attacks for now.

Now what we see is the back tracking of the previous Palestinian government on scaling down of hostilities between the two side. With the work dismantled, it will be hard for Israel to tolerate Hamas and its supporter any longer.

It is no longer about the rights of Hamas, it is now whether Hamas should be allowed to stay around to continue with the bloodshed.

You can post all the links you wish on the question but Israel did not fund Hamas in any way directly. They funded medical care for the people and tried to help those in need of help. Some of the bozo's over there would rather spend money for homemade bombs than for food and health care for their own people. Some folks think if they read it on the net, it has to be fact. We all know how stupid that is...

Hamas was a pile in the *** of Arafaat. But with the death of Arafaat situation changed. It is the same thing like US funded Talibans through Pakistan against Russia.

The question more accurately should be "why did Israel tolerate
Hamas for 20 years" ? I say, enough already. The Arabs have
got to stop this fighting before things get way out of control.
And, we will have no other choice but help Israel defend itself.
What a mess !

Why did Israel bring Arafat into the country and give him loads of money and guns?
Desperate attempts at appeasement? Plain stupidity? Both?

It's called "Divide and Conquer". But the solution was worse than the problem.

And it wasn't anything like US support of Saddam Hussein or Mujahadeen in Afghanistan in the 80s.

I'm sure the CIA are privately kicking themselves for that one...
