If you dont boot up normally, try pressing the f5 button and should be going to command prompt. locate the config.sys and edit it. you can also replace the config.sys on command prompt. first delete the old config.sys just type C:\del config.sys then create a new one. type edit on the command prompt, and a program will pop up. leave it blank, dont type anything, and save it as config.sys. then restart your pc...and windows will automatically configure it. thats the basic way, the easiest way is just to delete the config.sys and rebooyt the system, the windows will automatically create a config.sys. the easy way.

It seems your config.sys have been damaged. Restor it using your Windows installation cd; Boot up the installation and choose repair, then type name of file.

I'm sorry to say this but it's either a winchester or a mother board problem. Once I had the same and I had to buy a new PC.
However, your data stored on the winchester can be salvaged.Consult a PC doctor or a service for more information.
Sadly, not much else can be done.
