I have a folder on my external hardrive called "Bckup" that I made to, you guessed it, backup some files for myself and my family

But for quite some time I can't access it, I double click and a msgbox says Access is denied

I tried deleting the folder from the cheesy DOS shell
nope
I can navigate teh folder in DOs but that's it, what is it

I've done virus checks and evrything is there something I can do??

Do you know what that is??

ok
u must login with administrator user to your windows
then right click on this folder
select properties
then go to security tab
and for your user give full control permissions
maybe u r administrator but it's deny for u too
so u must change it

That's got to be frustrating. There can be several reasons and solutions for this. It is probably a conflict of some sort with the user settings with your particular installation of Windows. Here are a few articles that may address and solve your problem:

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=810881&sd=RMVP
http://www.petri.co.il/access_denied_error_in_efs_encrypted_files.htm
http://www.techspot.com/vb/topic9924.html

Hopefully these articles will at least get you started in the right direction. If you need more information, try using Google with the following search string: "access is denied" windows xp

Hope this helps!

You said "sometimes" you can't access it? Are you trying to access it from a limited account when denied and the Admin account when you have access?
