There are a few issues here.

You relationationship has become estranged. You are indicating that he loves you out of a dependency, not mature love.

It is my opinion only but hurt of another person is never good. Some actions may cause pain as when revealing a painful truth, that different from hurt.

Are you sure that there is no love or hope left? In the past he found fulfillment in your presence, what did you find, was it always loveless for you? Is counselling a hope?

If you are then may be releasing both of you by deciding to separate.

Does he love you? Ask him.If yes, go to counseling. If not, think: are you still good friends and do lots together? If yes--to the second question, you have a basis for a relationship--seek counseling and see how that goes. If not here too, then separation is a good idea. Giving up on someone you love or have as a good friend is not always the best answer. But if there is no love and friendship, why bother. You seem to care about him at some level that is why I encourage counseling.

its not good but unfortunate. Look back when you got married and ask yourself, Why did I marry this man? And think about it. Sometimes the answer is young fools in love which usually end like this. But no its never good hurting anyone, but your a person also and you must look after your feelings and life also. Do what is best for "you" and treat him the best you possibly can in the process. Good Luck to both of you.

Sounds like if there is no love in your relationship why would you want to separation? Why not get a divorce. If there is no love dont worry about hurting him. You need to do what is best. He will be fine in a few months. He is probaly not as happy as you think. Just do what is best. The longer you wait the harder it gets.

IF YOU feel that you need time to see if you still love him once hes gone that's not mean, cause eventually you are gonna hurt him any way if you don't, but if he doesn't want you when you love him again don't get mad cause he might not be in love w you either

It's never good to hurt people, it may be necessary at times.
