There is no reason to think otherwise provided certain criteria are met.

1/ A space vehicle, the size of a city, with a revolutionary drive capable of utilising the gravitational pull of not just our planets but of other stars within our galaxy and also some form of radiation based drive converter.

2/ A closed eco-system capable of recycling everything needed to sustain life. A Hydroponics system would be required to produce food.

3/ A super computer capable of storing all knowledge gained on earth since prehistoric times.

4/ The ability to procreate over a number of generations. These generations wold require social, educational and innovative skills at all levels.

5/ The ability to live as a closed community for eternity, if necessary, should a suitable material environment not be discovered.

6/ Androids to perform all routine tasks and capable of acting independently should the population require to enter a state of hibernation for a given period.

7/ Facilities to manufacture practically anything and the research bases to develop new ideas.

8/ The cooperation and involvement of many nations and people in producing what is needed to meet all the criteria above.

9/ Finally, the easiest of all the problems to solve; a large number of carefully screened willing volunteers.

There are scientists looking constantly for signs of life (suggest search for SETI).

There are a lot of other solar systems, and it could be possible for us to live there, we just need a planet similar to ours, or some way of changing another planet into one like ours (see Star Trek Movies).

The planet would have to be the right size and gravity, the right distance, and from the right sort of sun!) Then we need an atmosphere, because that protects against "cosmic rays", high energy particles from the sun and space etc. Earth's magnetic field helps protect us from these sort of things. The northern lights "aurora borealis" is a result of this sort of action.

Other life might be out there. We are carbon based lifeforms, some people think aliens may most likely be silicon based or like us (see silicon based lifeforms). God knows what type of planet they would need.

The hard parts are finding the planets in the first place and trying to get there, Then we gotta watch out for aliens!!

It would be so cool if we met aliens during my lifetime, it would answer a hard question without us having to bother!

There is no reason why not. We are one solar system in our galaxy called the milky way. Beyond our system are a billion others, each with a star like our sun, each with planets and some might be just the right distance from the sun to sustain life.

Then out of all the billions in our galaxy are a billion other galaxys in the universe.

Every one of those stars you see shining in the sky is a sun, a sun with planets around it. There are also more suns you cannot see, beyond our galaxy.

To think we are alone in this universe is stupid, while we are alone in our solar system we are not alone in the universe.

Ask Tony Blair! I often wonder what planet he's on, but its certainly not in our solar system.

Seriously though it depends on the size of the sun and the distance of any planet from that sun; there will be a zone where water will not totally evaporate or be permanently frozen. Then there is a possibility. See last weeks New Scientist for more.

There is no reason why not, It's just impossible to send anyone there yet.
At least, It's impossible to send them there and get them back again.
