Because comic book fans want more than a superhero on paper, and anyone who has ever been a fan of comic books, want a movie made about their heroes. Even long time fans, like myself. To see our action heroes brought to life, gives us a feeling that they still exist, if, even in our imaginations. And there are hundred's of millions of comic book fans, who will pay to see their heroes on the big screen.
I only wish they would make a movie about Archie, Jughead, Veronica, Betty, Reggie, and Big Moose.
They did once, but, it was of the Archie gang as adults. When I was a little girl, I collected all the Archie comic books, and had always wanted to see them in a movie. We need a movie of Archi and his friends as they are, Teenagers. Not as adults.

To answer many questions you only need to look to the past. Ask someone you may know who grew up in the 60's. Superheros became very popular during the mid to late 60's, especially Marvel characters. I believe the reason was that many people were losing a definite sense of right and wrong. Many concepts of what was ethical or moral that had been the acceptable status quo was being challenged. Change is inevitable but uncomfortable on many levels. Oddly enough we establish icons to help establish a sense of stability by giving us or re-establishing what we can accept as right/wrong, good/evil, moral/immoral. That has been my take on this. How do you feel about this?

The "Comic Book Generation" is in charge of the spending money today. Growing up reading comics of your favorite Super Hero, and wanting to see him in real life has become a reality. There is no competition between Comic Books and real time action. It is a wonderful feeling seeing your favorite hero defend the innocent and defeat Evil. It appeals to the good in all of us.

Hollywood goes through phases...
One person tries something new, then EVERYONE else joins the bandwagon...
Remember a few years ago with the body swap films??? Big was a huge success, (and Freaky Friday had been in the 70's) so then you got the follow-ons...
Then there were a lot of Vampire/monster movies and TV at the time of Interview with a Vampire...
Just a phase...

to launch a movie franchise based on comic character is a sure bet today.(because there is already a fan base so it equal ticket sale in movie theatre)
see superman return,or the next nick cage or spiderman 3 next year.
In a competive sector as the movie bisness when a studio has the chance to own a world trademark,it means billions of dollar.

because they bring the good stories and characters to the big screen. they had been confined to comics because of the effects required but with technology it can now be done. look at the old batman with adam west for instance. they're good plots and capture the imagination. people would have regarded reading comics as a negative past time but as a film it is perfectly acceptable.

ME! Because they keep ruining perfectly good comics by making them into superficial, feckless hollywood blockbusters. I reckon they should stop making them and take the massive amounts of money they would have spent on the movie and put it toward research for a cure for freakin cancer.

It's the same with me. I just don't understand their popularity. As for me, I don't like them at all. I'm rather into cartoons like Wallace and Gromit, Shrek and Over the Hedge.

Because they made the movies. Before there
were just tv shows, cartoons, and comic books.
It may have been longer then ten years though.
